Flooding in East Aurora What is to blame?

With all of the flooding that has happened along the East Branch of the Cazanovia Creek over the years, Has anyone come up with a good solution to the problem? I think the major problem is the old dam along Mill Rd. Has anyone suggested removing the dam to increase the flow of water, thereby lowering the water level upstream where all the properties are being flooded?

    Has it always flooded there?

IF it has, why would anyone build in that area? Is this a new occurance of flooding which wasn't there years ago?

    Yes and no.

Yes it has always flooded there, but never as bad as it has in the past few years. The dam gets blocked up around the spillway and the water flow gets greatly reduced. Noone wants to do anything about cleaning out the dam because of the cost.

We have been getting some unusually heavy rains lately...

The last large storm that hit EA dumped 4.5 inches of rain there..

I have a better Idea, put a small hyrdo facility there, and use it to offset the costs incurred by the village.
