The Amherst Industrial Development Agency, Friday morning, approved a $14.94 million inducement package for Uniland Development Co. The deal will help Uniland finance the construction of a 90,500-square-foot building in the CrossPoint Business Park.
Citing confidentiality clauses, both the IDA and Uniland are mum about who the tenant is for the building, but it is widely known within real estate and economic development circles that Citibank will be moving its global payments center from its current location along Ridge Lea Road in Amherst to CrossPoint.
"Applicant states that project will enable businesses, which may have otherwise left Western New York, to expand into a Uniland facility at competitive rents because of the inducement," according to IDA documents supplied during Friday's meeting. "The project will also potentially create a substantial number of new job opportunities for area residents. Applicant states that without Amherst IDA participation, the project will not proceed. Rental rates would not be competitive with other
markets outside the area, thereby influencing a business to relocate."
The IDA documents also state the building will house 362 workers.

Sure beats having these jobs move to South Carolina! I always wondered why a Fortune 100 company even had offices on Ridge Lea. Not a very attractive corporate setting.
