Hole Opens Up Revealing Hidden Well in Cheektowaga Woman's Yard

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY -- A Cheektowaga woman is looking for answers, and help, after soil gave way revealing a hidden well in her yard.
Linda Koteras, who lives at the Wabash Street home with her daughter, is very frustrated.
A few days ago, a hidden well nearly swallowed her four-year-old granddaughter. At the time, Koteras had no idea the well was at least 22 feet deep.
"She stepped in it, and she sunk down, and she said, she's stuck. And, I picked her up and pulled her out and she was soaking wet," says Koteras as she recalled getting her granddaughter out of the hole.

"The town engineer is in charge of a number of projects. He may be able to provide some fill. That really is going to be determined later because he uses ten wheel tandem trucks and to bring that on to a residential property could damage sidewalks or driveways," said Adamczak.
Why not just use a couple of wheelbarrows and carry the dirt from the road where the truck can dump some fill to the hole?

Because that would be common sense and manual labor. When I get 5 yards of topsoil, I have to wheel it 100-200 ft back depending where it is needed.
But I'm not a government worker.

An old pump well. People forget some of these homes had old pump wells in the front yards nothing unusual you can even find them in the city of Buffalo on some of the older side streets. The women should call a well expert to do the fill in you just cannot fill those type of wells in with stone, or concrete; it must be properly done. This also means the women’s house is sitting on a water table or water pool which could be under her house therefore, her foundation may or may not have issues. Well experts can tell her if her home is in trouble or not. Often these types of pump wells were no major issue years after not being used. Often many pump wells will just dry up unless they sit on a pool or a water table that supports a creek, river, or natural drainage. She should just call the Well Experts.
