Wow, that's wild. We don't usually realize the promises were empty until a few years after the project is completed.
I just saw this post on the BfloIssueAlerts mailing list:
From: GLADYS GIFFORD
Subject: Inner Harbor Parking Facility has no legs
Seth Triggs and I represented the Citizens Regional Transit Corp. at
the public information meeting concerning the Inner Harbor Parking
Facility, on July 14, 2005. This is the structure to be built on the
current Donovan office building, opposite Memorial Aud, on Main Street.
We were shocked to learn that the structure is now designated to be
only a parking ramp. The architects insist that they will design the
building so that it may be modified later to accommodate Amtrak, as
well as ground floor retail, but the moderator of the meeting declared
that the Federal money is restricted to a parking ramp alone.
For reference, go back to the Bass Pro MOU, to see that the Intermodal
Transportation Center is integral to the package of public monies for
the project. The City of Buffalo website still includes the Intermodal
Transportation Center.
What happened?
