    can a town be prevented from turning over a road to the people?

    Hi;

    If a town wanted to abandon a portion of town owned road that they no longer maintain, to the property owners on that road, can the homeowners prevent the town from turning over ownership of the road to them? What is the process for doing this? It seems like the town just wants to pass off the responsibility of maintaining the road to someone else. If they do end up turning over the ownership of the road, do they have to give the road back in good condition or can they just turn the road over in as-is condition?

    Thanks,

    Our resident road expert is Tomac. Try a PM if he doesn't show up.

    If I remember correctly, "snowball's chance in hell" is his opinion.

    Personally, I'd like the County to get out of a lot of roads.

    Tomac says Erie County's got more roads under its care than some whole states.
    Truth springs from argument among friends.
