what are good qualifications for a person to run for office?

Now that it's almost the end of petitioning, candidates will begin the real campaigns so I wonder what are good qualifications for a person to run for office?

I asked this more than a month ago and I'm glad you brought it back up NO.

I would challenge any candidates that frequent this board to post a concise, bullet point response to the following question.

WHAT MAKES YOU QUALIFIED TO REPRESENT E.C. VOTERS INTERESTS AS AN E.C. LEGISLATOR?

I don't say residents, citizens, or taxpayers because it is the "voter's voice" they are elected to represent.

And by the way, candidates have until July 14th to turn in their signatures at Eagle St. in Buffalo so there is actually ALOT OF TIME.

Considering all of the July 4th activities coming up and all the POTENTIAL SIGNATURES MILLING AROUND IN PUBLIC PLACES AT LARGE JULY 4th FIREWORK CELEBRATIONS - hint hint :>)

He was a great man and even better leader. Those times have since past though. Too bad, we could use a leader or a whole government of cloned Lincolns!

    Not a good example.

Good old Honest Abe was a well-to-do corporate lawyer representing railroads by the time he became a serious politician.

There are numerous examples of poor folk successfully winning public office.

But there's nothing sanctified about being poor or evil about being wealthy. You need to use the democratic process to find good people.

I am against paying poorly for elected offices. That virtually guarantees that only rich playboys (or playgirls) can afford to actually win.

I would like to add since it seems to be left out of the lists.

    HONESTY and INTEGRITY

If someone is Honest and keeps his word and cares for the people who put him in office... I would vote for him no matter what party he was from!
May you live forever.....and the last voice you hear.....MINE!

Anyone with the smarts that can vote should be qualified to run. If they are told what to do by party politics or pac groups are not on my list.

How do you think Cindy Locklear stands up to the "qualification" litmus N.O.?

Cindy - how do you feel about there being a "minimum qualifications" prerequisite for candidates? These could be used in an objective comparison of candidates for a particular office. While we have civil service exams that qualify somone for a specific gov't job, we have nothing that helps the voter determine baseline skills and abilities that could be deemed a set of "core skills" for prospective candidates, particularly those candidates that create legislation and drive budgets built upon tax levies.
