    Texas PD investigating internet postings

    http://www.oaoa.com/news/duarte_2440...sters_opd.html

After the Odessa Police Department looked like fools for raiding a house that was growing Christmas trees the cops are looking for blood. They have contacted a local newspaper and demanded information to trace the people that posted comments on a news story. Currently the newspaper has said no to the demand but this brings up a few questions.

    1. Should taxpayers be forced to fund a PD that uses police time and resources to run a modern day witch hunt

    2. By demanding the records are they infringing on one or more parts of the 1st amendment to the constitution, Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to assemble?
If you walk around in a forest with your eyes closed you will eventually walk in to a tree.

Your second 'clause' holds no water.

Freedom of speach doesnt apply online because you arnt using public servers, you are using PRIVATELY owned servers. Your ISP is a PRIVATE company and therefor you are bound by their rules. If you post on ANY site, you are bound by THEIR rules. Just like this site. You have no freedom of speach online since every site, every server has rules in which govern what is said.

As for the police wanting the information? All they need are the IP logs from the news site, which they can get with a court order if their investigation holds any water.
