and your solution is.....?
I love people that complain with no offer of an alternative idea.
Saw the whole bunch on the news last night complaining that nothing has been done for years on the waterfront.
Well, wasn't Higgins and Schroeder in charge here for many years in office?
Now they are parading Kennedy around with Conrad in the background.
Just like Seneca Street ... Nothing happening.
What's this about a private corporation getting the inner harbor project.
I thought it was the peoples waterfront.

I am mad as hell after living less then three miles from the waterfront all my life, that nothing has changed.
Pataki is now calling the shots. He has hundreds of millions of dollars to work with and has done nothing...NOTHING.
If Higgins has a plan, let him loose. He could do no worse.
I read an article, buried in the back of the news local section this morning, explaining this " corporation" he is pushing for.
I think it is a fine Idea.
Take control from those idiots like Pataki and his henchmen like Rudnick and get something done. They haven't done anything and don't propose to do anything now. I haven't heard of one Idea about the outerharbor other than some Grand Uniland plan With convention center) that is about as realistic as putting a Disney land on the moon.
Oh, yeah, the half baked casino with no windows proposal.
Higgins wants five years with this new agency to get something going, maybe with the right people, some new faces with realistic goals, it might work.
After five years the corporation is dissolved.
Whats better, five years of a maybe, or five MORE years of nothing?
Screw Pataki, he dosen't know his ass from his elbow. He got a call from Rudnick saying "Higgins called me irrelevent" and naturally is going to try to be a fly in the ointment on Ruddies behalf.
I say give the people what they want, and that is a water front they and thier children can enjoy in this lifetime.

By the way, what happened to biker? I miss the old coot.
How did the NFTA get that land back in "67"?
The NFTA has owned the land since 1967 and Griffin said, "Thirty-seven years later, very little development has occurred except for the Pier Restaurant, Small Boat Harbor, and Gallagher Beach."

You're right though, the waterfront in this neck of the woods only has a 4 or 5 month appeal, , short of covering the whole thing with a retracable dome.
The difference between taxes and robbery is the mode of coercion.
That looks pretty nice. I don't see any shops/bars/eateries there though...how long do you think it will take to decide on a design for the "bell slip bridge"?Oooo, THIS looks pretty.
That is not what Higgins had in mind. that is the Uniland proposal. Very unrealistic.
Not only that if you are building high priced condos with boat slips I don't think too many of your average income buffalo families are going to be able to afford to live there.
Just what we need more high priced water front condos to keep the po' folk out.

Didn't I say in a different thread that when you see one... you see them all?
At the Waterfront forum I attended a while back at the Historical Society, Higgins and Carl Montante from Uniland both spoke. One point raised during the discussion is, I think, very important.
The Uniland proposal is basically building another downtown. We already have a downtown. Let's make the waterfront something unique, something we don't already have. And let's make it as accessible as possible to as many people as possible.
I'm concerned about the "planned community" feeling the proposals have. You can visit a planned community pretty much anywhere in the United States. What will make Buffalo's worth visiting or moving to?
I'm not sure what the answer is but it seems that we're trying to jam a square peg into a round hole.
Treachery made a monster out of me
Notice the talk of a waterfront was as big last year? That's because Higgins and Schroeder are campaigning for Conrad and Kennedy. By putting all this publicity on the waterfront thing and inviting kennedy & conrad to speak/attend, they are using their "upper" powers to push the legislator and the Councilman into this election.
Speaking of the waterfront HERE'S (464KB's) a picture of the Buffalo's waterfront circa 1964 (about 40 years ago). I found the picture at the Library of Congress online.
