Restructuring Lancaster government (Abolishing the Villages of Lancaster & Depew)

With the national and state financial crisis taking place, there is a public outcry against any type of tax increase and a call for reducing the size of government. Reducing the one leads to reducing the other. It is time for Lancaster to become one by abolishing the villages and restructuring its government.

It will never happen. The towns of Lancaster and Cheektowaga stand to loose much money if this is done. As a Depew resident, I'd like to see us as our own town. We pay for things that we don't even use. Like Garbage services and police services. I like the services I get from my village.

The number of governments and elected officials in WNY is outrageous. This is a good place to start bringing Erie County in line with more sane metro areas.

Get rid of all the villages!

But the bottom line is that it is the village's voters that decide on dissolving, not the town or towns. In fact, they can decide to dissolve without even consulting the town. The towns involvement is in planning for the future. You would think the Depew voters on the Cheektowaga side would be tired of being taxed to death and initiate a referendum to dissolve.

I don't want to disolve, I want to be our own town.
