New York State Spending Needs to come to a Halt - State Authorites.

State Authorities Have $142B Debt, And 1,100 Earning More than $179K

ALBANY -- New York's public authorities continue to grow in size and scope, taking on more debt and exempting more than $773 million in potential tax revenue to state and local governments, a report Monday found.

New York last year had 553 state and local authorities, an increase of 63 from 2010, a report from the state's Authorities Budget Office said. The authorities, which are essentially independent agencies that can issue bonds and raise revenue, had $142 billion in debt, up $1.2 billion from 2010.

Public authorities reported that 1,099 employees in 2011 received total compensation greater than the $179,000 salary of the governor, according to the findings. But 72 percent are employed by the state's six health care corporations, including Westchester County Health Care Corporation, that are defined as public authorities.

Public authorities, first created in the early 1900s, have long been criticized for being able to incur debt and undertake major development projects with little public oversight.

    Debt $142,000,000,000

Mean they have each of us in debt for $7,295 dollars. Now I wonder how many actual net-taxpayers we have in New York State to see what we each of us really owe.

NY is the land of milk and honey for public employees! How this state hasn't collapsed under the weight of its own overspending is amazing to me. Of course in typical fashion we need to have Rome burn before anyone gets it.
