2009 Lancaster Town Budget, Part III: Residents speak out on elected official’s healt

As stated in Part II, several residents spoke at the recent Town Board meeting commending the board for making modifications to the tentative budget. However, when addressing the board, several residents commented that Councilman Ron Ruffino’s resolution to save taxpayers $40,000 by eliminating council members from receiving town provided health insurance was a step in the right direction, but that the resolution was not far reaching enough.

Still waiting for the board to take action on eliminating health insurance buyouts for the two parttime justices and the remaining full time elected officials. Didn't Councilmember Ruffino say this reform was coming in the future.

Perhaps he will wait and use this for his upcoming campaign for re-election in the fall.

What's next, Ruffino sponsoring a resolution to move forward and sell the white elephant police building on Walden Avenue? He was the most supportive of rennovating the building and most resistent for its sale.

What's the rush. Ruffino's running for re-election this year. He has to stretch out the gifts over time so he can remind people of all the good things he's done for them over and over again. Will Ruffino have a challenger? Has Ruffino ever been challenged? I mean by a real candidate.

We need real challengers in this year's election. And if we get real challengers, we need people to support them. Otherwise, long live Ruffino.
The town board creates the problems and when the residents complain, the town board tells them it's the resident's fault.

Would any real challengers want to put up with the slanderous political mailings from the Giza family, as in the past year's election?

While examining the agenda for Monday evening's Town Board meeting, I noted that under the proposed 2009 Scedule of Salaries Town Attorney Dudziak's salary is listed at $40,000, the same as in 2008.

In the tentative budget the Town had proposed giving him a $10,000 salary increase (25%). When residents complained on this, it was decided he would get a 3% raise like all other Town employees.

Now he is listed as getting no salary increase. What's with that?

Maybe with the New Years Eve festivities there were so many DWI arrests that he's really busy and rolling in the dough.
