It's disappointing that the same Republican legislators who were in favor of the County borrowing in 2008 and 2009 are now vehemently against it. While it is true it will cost the County a bit more in the short-term because of a lesser bond rating, it will save us millions in the long-term: 1) because allowing the control board to borrow would extend its life several more years at about $600,000 of taxpayer dollars a year and 2) the longer the County is out of the bond market, the less likely we are to get any future rating upgrades and the more difficult it will be to borrow on our own. Unless the Republican legislators believe the control board should be overseeing them forever...refusing to borrow on our own is simply shortsighted.
What the Buffalo News has to say about it...

At the heart of the issue is whether an estimated $860,000 in savings over 13 years outweighs other benefits that staff for County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz and Shenk contend the county would see if it returns to borrowing on its own after a six-year hiatus.

“We firmly believe that if you choose a more costly option to borrow on behalf of the county and incur nearly $1 million in unnecessary expenses, you have violated your fiduciary duty to the taxpayers,” the five legislators wrote.
That does make sense if it is true.

In recent years the control board has been able to borrow money at a lower cost because of its better credit rating.

Shenk and staff for Poloncarz have argued that the county will have a chance at improving its credit rating over time if the county returns to borrowing on its own authority.
    Save the million....

Some legislators disagree. “We are of the belief that no sum

of money is too small to save for the taxpayer, but this sum is far too great to waste,” the minority coalition wrote.
    yes it is...

Is Alan Bedenko blogging how Mark wants to cost our community all this extra money?

$860,000 over 13 years is about $66,000 a year. Where was the moral outrage when Chris Collins created a $130,000 patronage job two years ago?

Also you have a pretty disturbing obsession with Alan Bendenko. What percentage of your posts include his name?
