    Rod Watson's latest column

On the 6th of November Rod Watson published a column entitled "Color counts, and the main one is green."

He started off relating a story of an unnamed hotel club that instituted a membership fee, which caused all the black clients to go somewhere else. This was supposedly all about eliminated black customers, who for some reason would be hesitant to pay a cover charge.

Then for some reason he kind of segues into stating that people are so afraid for their businesses they'll ignore the skin color of a black candidate to get change.

Then at the end he states "In 2008, we’re still a nation preoccupied with color. But finally, for at least 52 percent of us, it’s no longer black or white."

Although the entire column had logical fallacies the last sentence really got me. To me this last sentence implies that the 48% of voters who did not support President Elect Obama are racist and more concerned with skin color than anything else.

I think this is a horribly shallow and disgusting baseless insult to tens of millions of Americans.

    Anybody else have a comment?

There's never been anyone as preoccupied with color as Watson

You know, it's one thing to use one's status and situation to do good. I truly don't think Watson's column is doing anyone a service.

I will say this: Many people I know who didn't vote for Obama did so because of his name or the color of his skin. The first time I heard someone actually say this I literally did this because I just can't imagine being that intolerant and short-sighted. However, every single person I spoke with who said they did vote for Obama did not choose him for his race. They chose him for his stance on policies and opinions.

People want to throw the race card around? Fine.

What I'd like to know is how come nobody has asked the same question of the other side of the coin. Senator Obama got 95% of the black vote. Had McCain gotten 95% of the white vote people would be crying racism left and right --- well, at least worse than they are now.

(In '04 88% went to Kerry, unfortunately this voting as a bloc has happened so much even black commentators have pointed it out)

Mr. Watson, and his obviously biased columns, have done more to hurt race relations then to help them. IMHO

Most Liberals will label you a racist for having the audacity to even bring this issue up.

Maybe Res should figure out a way to have a PAY forum. Certainly we have controversial writers here who don't SAY anything.

His columns are supposed to be biased. He's a columnist. He deals in personal opinion. And I think he provides a voice that should be heard -- the evidence of which, IMO, is how many say he shouldn't have a voice.

    i got it wrong

I thought he claimed 52 % sold out for money. Backing the green, that ment the other 48 % did not sell out.
And I to have talked to people about how they voted. I did not find any who claimed to vote against a black man or against his name. But I did meet people who voted for a black man.
By the way I voted for an old white vet. because I could understand his thinking .I get the free ride this time I can say its not my fault.

You really do know very little about what "most Liberal" think.

The truth is Watson has a leg up on all of you. He gets paid (good money, I assume) to write a stupid column about his stupid little thoughts.
The truth is, he may not even believe half of what he writes - but his job is to get people worked up.

And, each of you fall for it. So, who's the fool? He who is getting paid, or he who is getting fooled?
