Pittsburgh's Allegheny County has 49 school districts for 1.2 Million -

Hmmm- Their economy is pretty crappy too. I wonder if it has anything to do with excessive and wasteful government
Americans don't solve social problems...they just move away from them

BTW, Erie Co. leads Allegheny County in government workers, 17.4-10%.

Zoning boards, planning boards, and land use planning bureaucrats are excessive and wasteful too.

You're part of the problem Steel.

Well if you want to get technical, it was the attack on Fort Sumter.

Meanwhile you have states like UTAH that spend less than 6K a student and are ranked pretty high!
I doubt the unions would disappear even with that. There are private schools out there that have unions. The vouchers may work, but then you're talking about public education again.

I think it is more realistic to look at reforming the educational system.

And calling "education" what goes on in many government schools is more of a prayer than a description.

One of the effects of government schools is the closing off of debate on many topics as "insane" and "ignorant."

The educated mind should be open and skeptical and hungry for facts and logic. Does that sound like the typical government high school grad? Some can't even place the Civil War in the correct century.
You cannot say that and keep a straight face. I really hope you can't. You can't place all public school districts and graduates under that umbrella. Despite the fact that public schools in Buffalo are failing, you can't dispute the fact that there are also SOME of those public schools that are regarded as some of the best in the nation.
Your statement is ignorant and discriminatory, and lacks a well thought-out argument. I expect better from you.

    That's a no-brainer.

Of course, no government school in the country teaches that.
Really Jim? Seems to me every Social Studies class I've ever been in teaches that.
How many have you been in?

Keyboard, why don't you tell us what subject you fill those kids heads with in your government classroom. It would be interesting to hear which subject you are actively defiling.

You don't know anything about me. From reading your post, the only thing for certain is that I'm vastly more intelligent than you. Your post is laughable at best.

You're upset because I called you out on a post. Grow up. If you disagree do so like an adult. God forbid if a disagreement happens in a free forum that doesn't result in trying to attack someone else.

How many teach the true reasons? like that it had NOTHING to do with slavery? In fact it was about taxes, the north wanting to over tax the south. It was about states rights. But those details typically aren't as import in liberal schools.

I've never heard a Social Studies teacher do anything except go out of their way to get the class to understand that the war was NOT about slavery.

Ignorant? It's just my impression. Not sure how my impression could be ignorant. The ignorance of huge numbers of government school grads on history is legendary. Are you denying it?

The statement about the century of the Civil War is based on personal experience.
