By the Way. The Indianapolis metro area only has 11 school boards. That metro has about 600,000 more people that the Buffalo area. It is also a growing metro. Do you see a trend here.

Wny and NY is screwed mostly because it continues to be inefficient on all levels. Show me a government based economy that is self sustaining. Most people that live here have not woken up, apathetic or are beneficiaries in some way from the government.

Louisville where I worked at one time seems to have gotten the message as well.

Prior to the start of this thread, I've been checking out homes in the Charlotte area. Below, is just one example of how much less expensive it is to live there versus here.

Now....take 5 thousand per year at 5% interest over 30 years and tell me how much you paid with dry eyes. Aren't you lucky you are getting all the government you are paying for

Also don't forget our lovely NYS mortgage tax!!!!!

I really wish folks would wake up.

New York City has vastly improved its school district. We should take them as a model.

They have several districts controlled by one entity. I'll look into it more.

We should still be talking about a regional government.

They can set up and incorporate anything they want.....

    Just let them subsidize it.

"We should still be talking about a regional government."

It is already virtually impossible to elect a newcomer to any office above the municipal level. See the history of state and county legislative races. How in the world is the average person going to have any say in supra-county government?

    That's a rhetorical question.

NY spends on average $14,119 per student (number 1 in the nation) over 60% higher than the national average of $8,700. Shouldn't they be number 1 not 10????
    http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbc...NEWS/706070320

NC only spend $8,017.42 per student.

    http://www.ncpublicschools.org/docs/...006-07data.pdf

Additionally NY is the 16th smartest state in '06-07, they were number 6 in '04-05

NC is number 23 but was 25.

One's getting smarter the other MUCH MUCH DUMBER!!!!

We all agree multiple layers of government are bad. Multiple school systems bad. Multiple police forces bad. Didn't Giambra take a stab at this. Yikes! He almost got the gallows. What about Kevin Gaughn? The communities do not want the change. You could never get rid of the Cheektowaga police, Depew police. The people would be up in arms. Combine Buffalo schools and Cheektowaga schools, yea right. The first pol who attempts this will be run out of town.

    Mergers
Frontier and Hamburg = -1 (2 High Schools)
Lancaster and Depew = -1 (1 High School)
Maryvale, Sloan, Cheektowaga, Clevaland Hill = -3 (1 High School)
    Springfield, Holland and Yorkshire/Pioneer = -2 (1 High School)
Amherst, Sweet Home, Williamsville = -2 (4 High Schools)
Kenmore and Tonwanda = -1 (2 High Schools)
Eden, Evans, North Collins, Gowanda = -3 School Districts (2 High Schools)
Alden and Akron = -1 (1 High Schools)
East Aurora and Iroquois = -1 (1 High School)

I would redraw the lines for the school districts
School Districts - 29 School Districts to 16 School Districts
