BuffaloPundit - Electoral Fusion And Terribleness

    Electoral Fusion And Terribleness

If you ever wanted to know how political staffers get their jobs, it’s by doing a lot of boring, annoying, time-consuming grunt work that no one else wants to do. They have to be loyal and trustworthy, and they have to be able to accomplish with a straight face the tasks required of their job.

That’s not rocket science, that’s not automatically “bad”, it’s how it’s been done since time immemorial, everywhere, and isn’t going to change anytime soon.

After the County budget crisis of the last decade, I thought it’d be impossible for Swanick to ever dare to re-gain elected office again. Or any job that didn’t end with the suffix “the clown”. At the time, Swanick had switched to the Republican Party in order to be elected legislature chairman, and even after that, he was at the forefront of a fiscal disaster, and had a hand in assisting Butch Holt to give a county contract to his brother’s Texas-based basketball camp, and a $3 million no-bid contract to a glorified answering service called “community corrections” – a huge attempted scam.
Now I remember why chuck should not be allowed to make any decision effecting our community..... he was involved with the above BS.

Does Ralph Lorigo remember any of this?

    Looking back

Why CBC is a scam (pt 2)

Forget for a second the fact that CBC apparently told Holt that it would save the county its entire yearly prison budget of $16 million.

The county was supposed to pay this company $3 million. (Remember: your zoo is losing funding. Your Kleinhans and Albright Knox are losing funding. Parks are closing. Just remember that.)

Holt & Swanick are lying about CBC (pt 3)

When the CBC story broke about 3 weeks ago, George Holt was interviewed on WBEN, and he tried to poo-poo the CBC issue away. He said that Amendment E was merely a recommendation to the County Executive, that no money had been allocated for or to CBC, and that the proper RFP (request for proposals) bid procedure would still have to take place.

I wonder if Ralph Lorigo remembers this:

Swanick spells out sales tax options

Read the rest of the story

Erie County Legislator Charles M. Swanick introduced bills Wednesday providing a choice of three increases in the sales tax, calling such a move the only viable way to deal with county budget deficits projected through 2009.

Though his action could escalate the sales tax controversy that has gripped county government since last fall, Swanick said he hopes the specter of a steeply higher property tax plus an acceptance by taxpayers that some tax increase is inevitable might pave the way for adopting one of the choices he has outlined.
A viable way to deal with our high taxation is to CUT SPENDING..

    Swanick Leaving Erie County Legislature

(Buffalo, NY, May 4, 2005) - - You're seeing this story first right here! He missed four meetings in a row, and News 4's Mylous Hairston has learned that Erie County lawmaker Chuck Swanick will soon hop a train and return to his old career as a railroad engineer.

After 25 years in County Hall, Chuck Swanick may be riding the rails out of the Erie County legislature.

News 4 has confirmed the Republican lawmaker has a job lined up with CSX.

James Louis, chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local 421, said, "Chuck Swanick has re-applied to come back to work as a locomotive engineer."

Swanick has been on a leave of absence from CSX since he was first elected to the legislature in 1980.

Sources tell me his decision to return to the rail is tied to Erie County's budget crisis and poor polling numbers for re-election.

His training locally is set to start within the next two weeks at a Kenmore railyard.

Pundit is right on his issues with fusion voting. It brings about minority rule in every close election.
