Mr. "Servant of the People", start "showing me" you work for "US"

You live here, put up with the ****ty long, long, very cold winters, windy cold summers, salt rotting away our expensive vehicles at an accelerated rate, houses needing beyond normal repair because of extreme weather conditions year after year, some of the highest taxes in the nation, 2nd highest gas prices in the nation, highest natural gas rates, highest cost of electrical power rates, highest costing school system in the nation, deficit after deficit after deficit, budgets that are "consistently and constantly" always late, etc., etc, etc.,....

Well Mr. politician, here's one of your first chances to DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR OUR AREA. GET US CHEAPER RATES FOR OUR (NATURALLY PRODUCED) POWER !!

YES, I SAID "NATURAL" ! If there is any "one pure benefit" we SHOULD be getting for living in this area, it is having a PURE NATURAL - VERY HIGH CAPACITY PRODUCING - POWER SOURCE.

We should be enjoying the "cheapest" rates in the nation, not the "highest".

Let's see what you can do, if your really, really, serious, about serving the PEOPLE of this area, who pay your "higher than average wages."

Falls power can generate needed boost (B.E.N.) 3/28/2005

People come from around the world to gaze at its awesome power. Niagara Falls. It's in our back yard. The hydropower from its flow generates huge amounts of electricity. We can use that power to lift ourselves out of the economic muck - cheap power to help local businesses and to lure others here.
We have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make our natural resource work for us. The New York State Power Authority's 50-year license to sell power generated from the Falls expires soon. It wants a relicensing deal.

It's a chance to claim what we deserve - more cheap power from our own resource.

"We need something dramatic to help us," said Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo. "This is our best opportunity to revive the economy of Western New York."

The roadblocks to economic rebirth are high taxes and utility costs. It's why we can't keep or lure businesses. Businesses mean jobs. Jobs mean our kids don't leave and departed friends can come back.
    .............

Florida used its warm climate to build a tourist industry. We should use the cheap power from the falls to rebuild our economy. Instead, the authority pads its profits by auctioning power that should stay here to users across the Northeast.

Most of our cheap power was set aside years ago for heavy industry, much of which - like Bethlehem Steel - isn't here anymore. Higgins wants cheap power to run information technology's computers, to help small- and mid-sized businesses grow, to persuade businesses to come here. Instead, companies leave because of sky-high electric bills - when we've got a huge cheap-power generator in our back yard. It's ridiculous.

We can settle for what we have, or we can demand what we deserve.

There's a lot of water going over the falls. Let's not get sold down the river

Amen! And how about the residents get some benefit from living near the damn falls? Let NYC figure out how to power themselves and stop driving up our local costs?
