The only way that will happen is if the public keeps the pressure on so the bill gets through the State Senate and is signed by Pataxki. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
State Assembly Democrats say they have their own plan to limit governments, including the state, from reaping a tax windfall from the rising price of gasoline.
The majority Democrats said they would approve a bill Monday to eliminate the state's 4 percent sales tax on gas and replace it with an eight-cents-a-gallon excise tax. That tax is the equivalent of what the state would collect on gasoline if the fuel was priced at $2 a gallon.
If local governments follow suit on easing back the sales tax, motorists would gain up to an extra $400 million. The tax change on both the local and state levels would save motorists about 10 cents a gallon, Assembly officials said.

The path is clear
Though no eyes can see
The course laid down long before.
And so with gods and men
The sheep remain inside their pen,
Though many times they've seen the way to leave.
Don't hold your breath.
This is pure politics that goes nowhere except the good intentions file.
You're right on that. 99% of what the politicians are saying about gasoline prices is nothing more than posturing for the pubic and BS to boot.
