Town and School Board meeting dates conflict

This Monday, February 6, 2012, the town and Lancaster Central School District (LCSD) Board of Education (BOE) hold meetings that should be of interest to attendees who hold both affairs in equal importance.

The budget work session begins at 6:30 pm and will be held at the Norman Hayes Administration Building at 177 Central Avenue.

The LCSD has posted on its web site the agenda and a packet of documents on what will be covered at this initial budget work session meeting. Subject matter for the work session and estimated budget increases and savings at this time are:

Operation and Maintenance – decrease of $563,809; -7.36%

    Total Transportation – decrease of $175,793; -2.64%

    Debt Service – increase of $733,597; 13.70%

    Employee Benefits – increase of $1,537,472; 7.16%

As in past years, the BOE has been encouraging the public to attend and participate in the budget work session meetings. As someone who does attend both town and BOE meetings it is difficult to understand why the BOE would schedule a budget work session on a regularly scheduled town board meeting night.

    Town Board meeting

Despite the public requesting that the town board agenda also contain the contents/language of the proposed resolutions that has not taken place. In fact, no agenda was posted for this Monday evening’s town board meeting.

A work session that precedes the regular meeting begins at 7 pm.

A public hearing is scheduled for 8:15 pm regarding fire district contracts. According to the Buffalo News the town is expected to approve volunteer fire district contracts with Bowmansville, Millgrove, Town Line, and Twin District on Monday evening, yet no such resolution appears on the agenda I examined at the library.

The News reports that there will be no increases in funding for the 2012 and 2013 contract years.

Another resolution of interest is #7. The proposed resolution by Supervisor Dino Fudoli is to reject bids for construction of the firing range renovation at the existing Pavement Road police garage. The public has been led to believe the project was a given and was underway.

There is a legal notice regarding the Public hearing but why isn't it on the agenda?

Looks like Fudoli did some research. I wonder if any of the previous bids were from Action Target in Provo, Utah, the company who was awarded the bid for the Cheektowaga firing range

Resolution #10 by Fudoli to abolish the Senior clerk typist position in the Supervisor's office.

But in the communications section, Fudoli's letter appointing someone to the secretary to the supervisor position. Is that a new position or renaming the assistant to the supervisor position?
