Would you support a 1Cent gas tax to extend our Light Rail?

Would you support a 1Cent gas tax to extend our Light Rail?

Assuming that the 1Cent gas tax was only used to expand and upgrade infrastructure or for maintenance.

There are a predicted 3-4 million visitors per year expected for Bass Pro, in fact, Bass Pro has requested a Light Rail connection to the airport since the multimodal station will be right across the street. It would locate Bass Pro at the center of Light Rail, Rail, Bus, Highway and the Port of Buffalo (Inner/Outer Harbor Area).

It would also help a downtown renaissance if we could extend the rail to Niagara Falls and the Seneca Casino.

Not to mention that a southward extension of the Light Rail to the Inner/Outer Harbor area would help development in that area.

WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK....WOULD YOU SUPPORT A 1 CENT GAS TAX FOR MASS TRANSIT?

Why would people who drive cars support a tax on themselves to help those who ride light rail?

Should a vegan support a tax on asparagus so a carnivore can eat subsidized beef?

moadib, do you have any ideas that don't include a tax on somebody?

Have you been spending to much time in the Central Terminal?
If Elmer Fud would like an extension of the light rail to the airport then have him reach down into his deep pockets and pay for it. Better yet just have him cast a fishing line out to the airport and catch the people and reel em in.

There is a Bass pro store in Toromto why will 3 million people come to Buffalo to visit ours? That whole Bass pro arrangement should be reviewed. Something does not seem right.

That light rail was a joke even before they stuck a shovel in the ground. If they wanted to do any type of mass transit system like that it should have been via a monorail NOT A TRACK WITH OVER HANGING WIRES THAT LOOK LIKE ****. Not to mention the disruption it is causing with everyday vehical traffic and pedestrians. Main street will never be the same.

Yiyiyiyi thow shall have patience and exhibit great attempts to understand.

Central Terminal, Crystal beach boat, light rail......

Sorry, I do not understand you moadib.

That would be something an idiot would think as a good tax. What a burden to place on a community.

Don't know if this can be done by the county, but I think a hike in the tobacco and alchohol tax would bring in a lot of money.

Why not have a county tax on tobacco products? Raise the rpice of a pack of cigarettes to 8 or 10 dollars a pack. It would cut down on smoking and still bring in a lot of money.

You want an lite rail system? Then charge $8 or $10 to ride it!!
Why are you trying to raise ANY more taxes on ANYTHING, when we already pay sky high taxes, especially on gas and cigarettes. The people that are in charge are miss-using the high taxes we are already paying, but you want to give them more? That's how we got were we are now, for cryin out loud.
I sure as he** don't want to pay for ANY more union people making $50 an hour + perks + ungodly bennies + ungodly pensions.
They kept raising the d** taxes on private businesses, where did that get us?
Bass Pro is requesting the LRS, then charge an extra tax on their sales, after all, it's for their benefit, that they want it. People that smoke or drink aren't asking for it. Charge an extra $8 to $10 on the lures they sell.
We don't need any more taxes on anything, were already the highest in the nation. We need proper managent, oversight, and most of all ACOUNTABILITY. We don't need a boatload of government "UNTOUCHABLES" with big wads, and fancy new SUV's with chaufferes.

Good Point. BassPro ain't gonna help most people in WNY so why should most people pay any extra to help them.

I would like to see all the small and already established camping/fishing stores sue the state for allowing thier tax money to end up in the competator hands. There's no reason why any politcian should bring thier competition into the area at thier expense.

At this point in our county budget fiasco I WILL NOT support a penny tax increase on anything. on lowering taxes; eliminating the Thruway tolls and Authority; eliminating the Peace bridge tolls and Authority; eliminating the State Medicaid system; eliminating the extravagant State worker pension system . I don't want to hear anything about RAISING any tax!!

The way to use our rail system, which is quite expansive, is to find private money that will invest in a light rail system. Could it work? Yes but only if there is a turn around in our economy and buisness develops across EC. That is going to take years. Remember the county and state are already ten years behind the rest of the country, if not farther! We do not need to raise any tax in the our county or anywhere within the state; we just need to work leaner, smarter and harder. The days of freeloading need to be brought to an end.

Just listening to c-span on tv. They were talking about the fed gas tax. We pay 18.4 cents fed tax, per gal. That money is "supposed" to go to funding the nations transportation systems. Does it? Well some does, you could say. Guess how much?

    ONLY TWENTY PERCENT

Only 20% goes to what that tax was "set up" for. And the "bulk" of that 20% only goes to a "few select states". The rest of that tax money is spent on whatever the federal government "feels like".

They call them "earmarks". At present there are approx 3,300 earmarks.

That's THREE-THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED things "other than" the "transportation system" of this country, such as building museums, stadium funds, and various other things (who exactly knows ? 3,300 "other" things).

So you keep that little tid bit in mind, when you few want to, "tax this" and "tax that" to build a rail system. We already are paying for it. We just ain't seeing the money that's there.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

"New York’s gasoline tax stands at $0.3235 per gallon (*highest) (*why does that not suprise me)

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

"New York taxpayers receive LESS federal funding per dollar of federal taxes paid than the average state"

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I see the "entire" government system of the USA, as being a bunch of, spoiled, untouchable, unaccountable, totally polorized, masters of deception, that do not in any way represent the "good of the people" of this country. Everything from local, "on up", is typically being done, behind closed doors,or in secret meetings, as last minute rushed deals, and mega-tons of money is "not" going where it is supposed to, or being accounted for (typical of todays "corporate-like atmosphere and operation").

(Ex. Nine billion dollars of war funds missing. Gone - poof! Like a "fart in the wind". No big deal! We got trillions more where that came from! ha, ha, ha, ha!)

    Thumbs down GAS TAX

I recommend we get ride of the light rail to save some tax dollars, then maybe we can get rid of the 50 cent tax on gas now!

If you want the light rail have it run by a company not the goverment, and give us the tax payers a break!

    railroads go everywhere

If they want the lite rail to go some where use the railroads.most of the towns still have an old station sitting vacant and tracks that are not used enough to justify fixing .old abandoned railroad beds are everywhere. the lite rail should have been built on them in the first place.Orchard Park has a station Hamburg has a station.,,West seneca ,Amherst cheektawaga ,lancaster kenmore Both tonawandas just like spokes on a wheel pointing to every twon. let the lite rail use them

    I live in the City.

    I ride the subway often.

I'm going to ride it today.

    There is no good tax.

    Politicians are idiots.

If you think any politician can wisely spend your money, follow these two easy steps:

    1)Add up how much you would willingly send a politician;
2)Send half of it to me and keep the rest.

All of your money will be better spent than sending it to a politician.

I know why Buffalo got the money for the subway. I know because I asked Henry Nowak who chaired the subcommittee in the seventies that sent it here.

You are an idiot if you think this was needed.

PS-Send me a PM message and I will send you the address to send me the money.
