Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union, the largest Western New York-based credit union, has been struck by the union representing its tellers, loan personnel, customer service representatives and clerks.
Local 212 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) went on strike Friday. A statement released on behalf of the credit union said negotiations had been underway since Oct. 2007 to reach a new labor agreement to replace an expired four-year contract that expired Nov. 13, 2007.
"Cornerstone and union negotiators reached a tentative agreement, later rejected by union membership, that would continue to provide employees with a more-than-competitive benefits package, including single and family health insurance coverage for full-time employees and a 401(k) retirement plan," the statement said.
