Smile The WNY Game Show Network: New to Time Warner Cable Subscribers!

A new cable channel is being introduced and will soon be offered to Buffalo subscribers of Time Warner. (The network is only broadcast in HDTV by the way so you are **** out of luck if you have an old set...)

Even more notable is that only Time Warner Cable subscribers who live in "another dimension" will be able to clearly pick up this channel... But I digress.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE SHOWS ON THE WNY GAME SHOW RERUN NETWORK:

Press Your Luck With the Buffalo Police!

...Based on the 80s hit series "Press Your Luck," this show will feature journalists vying for stories rather than money. H. McCarthy Gipson and Byron Brown will host the show and will ask local journalists silly trivia questions. If the journalists answer the questions correctly, they are given a chance to "spin" on an electronic board of squares. Behind some of the squares are hidden stories about Buffalo crime. Behind other squares is The Whammy! Oh yeah, we all remember The Whammy! Only in this game show The Whammy is actually a pushy Margaret Sullivan in disguise! If the journalists land on The Whammy! she will jump off of the screen and start pushing the journalists toward Gipson and Brown and screaming in a shrieking voice, "Come on! Come on! Make them tell you what happened on the East Side last night! We have a right to know! To heck with the witnesses who might be put in danger! We wanna sell papers and we're running out of ideas! EEEEEEEEK!"

Of course, landing on The Whammy! means that the journalists lose all access to those hidden crime stories... And it's back to reporting about sausage thefts from freezers in South Buffalo.

Where in the Region is Carl Paladino?

This show is based on the classic 90s PBS kids series "Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego?"

"Where In the Region is Carl Paladino?" will feature an a capella singing group and a bunch of other silly characters who gather around to pick apart clues as to where in the region local developer/cult figure Carl Paladino could be.

A computer generated cartoon Carl Paladino will fly across a map of the Greater Buffalo Niagara region and settle into a mystery location. A face will pop up on the screen saying things like, "Mr. Paladino is in an area surrounded by large houses and shopping centers. There are a lot of middle aged women with Botox injections and kids named Ashlyn and Jayden..." Contestants will then scream out, "I know! I know! Clarence! He's in Clarence."

On the next episode the face on the screen will say, "Mr. Paladino is in a place with a lot of people with dreadlocked hair and black rimmed glasses. They are carrying cups of gourmet coffee and heading for a protest rally. They are being followed by street people asking for money." Contestants will then scream out, "I know! I know! He's in the Elmwood Village!"

    Elmwood Village Squares

The Elmwood Village Squares is based on the classic Hollywood Squares, of course... But this show will NOT be broadcast to suburban Time Warner subscribers, out of spite.

The nine squares will feature local Elmwood Village celebrities and denizens:
Upper Left: That Shayna chick who was on Hell's Kitchen
Upper Middle: Justin Azzarella, the young dude who's in charge of the Elmwood Village Association.
    Upper Right: Pano Giorgiadis
Middle Left: A random Buffalo State College art professor.
Middle Middle: Tim Tielman, of course! Oh, and he's got the Madam puppet too!
Middle RIght: A random Buffalo State College philosophy professor.
Bottom Left: Cookie Monster. He will often interrupt the show to EAT copies of Buffalo Rising and the Artvoice, all the while going, "NUM NUM NUM NUM NUM NUM! NO SURFACE PARKING! NO SURFACE PARKING! NO BIG BOX! NO BIG BOX! EAT ORGANIC! BURP."
Bottom Middle: Eric the Jewelry Guy... He will often doze off.
Bottom Left: That weird skinny guy on the bike.

Deal Or No Deal? No, really...

"Deal Or No Deal... No, Really" is WNY's answer to "Deal Or No Deal." They could not afford to have Howie Mandel host the show, so they had to settle for Kevin "I Was the Why Guy" O'Neill (with a shaved head and earring.) The briefcase models will be the also rans from last year's Miss Canal Fest Pageant.

The contestants are local politicians, civic leaders, nonprofit execs and others from Western New York. They are competing for briefcases full of cash ALL DONATED BY TOM GOLISANO... Golisano himself acts as "The Banker" and decides whether to "make an offer" or see if the contestants are willing to just go ahead and stick it out.

There was some controversy however during the most recent episode's taping... Michelle Ianello and Joe Mesi nearly got in a fight because Ianello claimed that Tom "The Banker" Golisano was "making a deal" with Mesi and was taking away the chance for anyone else to get a deal... Ianello was last seen running off the set with several briefcases in hand while Mesi was getting ready to throw an upper cut punch.

    Bonus Round!

On today's episode of "Where In the Region is Carl Paladino?" they are featuring a BONUS ROUND.

The first contestant to answer correctly gets to go scouting with Carl for a location to erect a new building. (But be careful, the set of "Elmwood Village Squares" is across the lot and Tim Tielman and Justin Azzarella might run off of the set to follow you and Carl and start complaining...)

*A capella singing* "Doo doo doo... Where in the region is Carl Pa-la-di-nooooooooo...."

Clue #1: He's in an area full of large buildings, most of them over 40% vacant. There aren't a lot of people around, except for a bewildered Social Services employee coming back from her lunch hour... It looks like she is eating a taco or a slice of Gino and Joe's pizza. There is a large traffic circle with taxi drivers who sit waiting all day but never seem to pick anyone up. A bunch of sex offenders who live in an old hotel that was converted to a halfway house are heading for a large library to look at internet porn. Now and then a group of sound guys come in to set up a free concert on a stage next to an old monument.

Clue #2: He's in a town that is full of a mixture of new subdivisions and older, more "village like" areas with post war housing. There is a racetrack nearby... Lee Chowaniec is telling people that Wal Mart is bad.

Clue #3: He's in an area of the city with a 46.6% poverty rate. Many of the residents do not speak English. There is a lot of old and deteriorating housing. Once a year however the residents try to rise above their poverty stricken gloom by sliding up a greasy pole.

Clue #4: He's in a area to the south of the city where nearly every dwelling is priced at over $300,000. There are a toy factory and an aerospace precision control parts factory nearby. The women are all wearing hand knit scarves and beaded earrings made by a local artisan.

On today's "Deal or No Deal... No Really" Kevin Gaughan will be a contestant... But he will walk off the set politely refusing any money or support from Tom Golisano.

Donn Esmonde will be in the audience and will rise up to give Gaughan a hug. Esmonde will start yelling, "Awesome! That's so righteous! That is such a way to take a stand! Yeah, stick it to the rich guy, man!" Esmonde will then wipe a tear from his eyes and offer to buy Gaughan coffee somewhere on Elmwood. Gaughan will say that he actually would like to use the rest of the balance on his Tim Horton's gift card instead. Esmonde will say, "You traitor!" and run away...

Meanwhile, Tom Golisano will sit from his "The Banker" seat looking on and shaking his head, totally bewildered.

I'd like to be a contestant on any one of those shows, but alas, I am not enough of a character.

Achbek!!!!!!!!!!!... I guess I should know better, but since I'm living in such a "nanny state" I must ask you to precede your posts with a warning. Something that will let me know I should empty my bladder before reading and definitely do not read while drinking any beverage, especially hot ones!!!!!!

Are You Smarter Than A Legislator?

Are You Smarter Than A Legislator? is Erie County's version of the hit game show "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?"

In this show however, the fifth graders go up against members of the Erie County Legislature in a battle of wits regarding simple county policymaking and decisions... (oh, and simple math.)

In this week's episode, Lynn Marinelli goes up against Kate, a feisty ten year old. Kate and Lynn Marinelli are both asked the question, "What is the best way to monetarily deal with Erie County's looming fiscal crisis? The choices are: a.) raise taxes b.) cut back on basic needed public services c.) go to bars on Hertel Avenue hoping for some good photo ops..."

Lynn Marinelli was thrown off the show for giggling and shooting spit balls with Tim Kennedy before the question could be answered.

Wheel of Protest is the Western New York special interests groups' version of Wheel of Fortune.

Members of local special interest groups, and sometimes community associations, will appear on this show to spin a wheel and try to win cash and other prizes by solving a hidden word riddle that spells out something that they would like to protest.

    Past word riddles have included:

    BIG BOX DISCOUNT STORES

    TURNING LANES

    PEACE BRIDGE EXPANSION

    TIM HORTON'S

    KMART

    SUBURBAN REPUBLICANS RUNNING FOR OFFICE

    VINYL SIDING

STOREFRONT FACADES THAT JUST DON'T PROMOTE THE APPROPRIATE "SENSE OF PLACE"

    It's Epidemic!

Yes, this show is actually based on the home town Buffalo game show of yesteryear, "It's Academic."

But there will be no Calasanctius alumni here...

"It's Epidemic!" will feature Buffalo City School students who are in danger of dropping out... (The name of the show references the epidemic proportions in which Buffalo Public School students have been dropping out lately.)

A jovial Dr. James Williams will host the show and ask groups of at risk students what the reasons are for them giving up on high school. He will try to coax answers from them as to whether social, crime related, or stress related issues are the reasons for them giving up on education.

Winners will receive an automatic GED.

    It's Extreme!

EXTREME MAKEOVER: The Patio Home Edition is based on the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

This show will feature upscale childless couples and empty nesters who reside in patio homes in Williamsville.

Update: This show has been canceled after two episodes. Apparently the neighbors in the patio home subdivisions did not like the noise and commotion that the taping of the show caused.
