    2-3-05 Free Panel Discussion on 2004 Election and Future of Democratic Party

    WESTERN NEW YORK COALITION FOR PROGRESS TO HOLD PANEL DISCUSSION ON THE 2004 ELECTION AND THE FUTURE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

    Buffalo, NY – On Thursday, February 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. the Western New York Coalition for Progress in conjunction with the Canisius College Young Democrats will present a panel discussion entitled “The 2004 Election and Future of Democratic Party” at the Regis South Room located in the Richard E. Winter Student Center on the campus of Canisius College. The discussion is free and open to the public.

    Mark Poloncarz, Western New York Coalition for Progress president and panel moderator, noted that “since election day, there has been a major debate among democrats, progressives and liberals about the direction the Democratic Party must take if it to once again become the majority party of this nation. This discussion will examine what actually happened in 2004 and what the Democratic Party can do, if anything, to win in the upcoming 2006 Congressional elections and the presidential race in 2008.”

    Elise Garvey, a member of the Board of Directors of the WNY Coalition for Progress and president of the Canisius College Young Democrats, noted that, “we have assembled a great panel, including party leaders, members of academia and those who were on the ground in major swing states in 2004, and look forward to a lively debate on the future of the Democratic Party,”

    Poloncarz, the former WNY Coordinator for the Kerry-Edwards campaign, will moderate the discussion which includes the following panelists:

    Ø Simon Peter Gomez, Asst. Professor of Political Science, Buffalo State College;

    Ø William Graebner, Professor of History Emeritus, SUNY-Fredonia & former Pickaway County, Ohio Co-Coordinator, Kerry-Edwards 2004;

    Ø Kevin Hardwick, Professor of Political Science, Canisius College;

    Ø Len Lenihan, Chairman, Erie County Democratic Committee;

    Ø Mark Thomas, County Executive, Chautauqua County and former Democratic Congressional candidate, 27th Congressional District of NY; and

    Ø Antoine Thompson, City of Buffalo Councilman (Masten District), former WNY Coordinator John Edwards for President, and Assistant Field Director, Kerry-Edwards 2004, Davenport, Iowa.

    The WNY Coalition For Progress is a nonpartisan organization of individuals bound together by a common commitment to progressive values, which aspires to ensure that national and local policies reflect those values, and which is dedicated to making western New York and America a better place to live, work and raise a family.

    Kevin Hardwick being the ... er... uh token Republican - if only to offer the "fair and balanced" perspective.

    Or maybe he's a spy?

    Projected outcome:
    "Howard Dean for party stability!"
