    Anonymous sabotague

Blogs such as SUWNY & BfloRising have powerful potential to inform & reform.

However, there are ineffective controls over destructive posters who sabotague almost every serious thread.

Here is another dramtic example from BfloRising, which posted this on-line petition yesterday:

    http://www.petitiononline.com/sba/petition.html

    To: Buffalo Common Council

We the undersigned City of Buffalo Citizens in good standing do hereby petition that the following motion be submitted to the Common Council of Buffalo for their approval or disapproval, with all urgency:

Whereas City owned Vehicles are granted for use by elected officials is an abhorrent practice in every way contrary to the purpose of public service and of advancing Buffalo Socially, Economically, and Financially and as a means of promoting Buffalo to external stakeholders. .

    Sincerely,

    The Undersigned
But anynonymous vandals immediately destroyed the initiative. Here are the 56 "signatures", most of them pathetic efforts at humor. Any seriously-concerned citizen would be embarassed to sign on to such a sad charade.

    No wonder Bflo seldom improves.

Can We Get Out Of Our Own Way?
    Yesterday, 6:34pm By queenseyes

This just in: SaveBuffalo*, a group of concerned activists, has just posted an online petition asking that City Hall practice what it preaches. It appears that the intention of the group is to gather public support in order to call The City to task on a few outdated policies. The group's first charge is to gather signatures from taxpayers who feel that City officials should be footing the bills for their own forms of transportation. Whether that means shelling out for a car or Metro Rail fees, SaveBuffalo feels that it's time that people put their signatures where their mouths are. Instead of making you appear before the Common Council to voice your opinion, SaveBuffalo is willing to carry your voice for you. If you agree, click here to cast your vote on their online petition. It's not a broken record. I get at least 20 emails a week as letters to the editor without a name. Not even a first name/location.

I would easily post them up if they had a name attached to them and I could verify that. Otherwise they are meaningless if no one wants to stand behind what they write.

Anyone who pm's me to ask who I am I tell them without hesitation.

Will you stop already, Kern??? You choose to use your full name as your screen name, but others don't -- and that's their right and their own business. If you don't like it that SUWNY or BRO allow screen names, then don't post here. Create your own blog and require everybody to use his/her real name, but I have one question for you, Dick. How do we, the members of SUWNY, know that the poster known as "Dick Kern" is really Dick Kern and not Frank Parlato, Jr?

    Food for thought

The whole anonymous thing is an interesting concept; I'm surprised no one has ever brought it up here before.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention, Mr. Kern.

BTW, what's a sabotague? Is that where Jews worship?

That's your option. Res, go start a non anonymous site and see how far you go. How many people are signed in with there real names and of which, how many actually post.

I can only think of 7 people on this site that post somewhat regularly (forgive my spelling)...

    Everything's a big (anonymous) joke?

Heavy posters, who set the tone on SUWNY (anonymously, of course) all agree.

The signers below (in bold italics) are apparently the best hope to "make Buffalo a better place"?

Here are "signatures" #18 to #68:
    http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?sba&1

Name Comments Address; Zip Code Address; Zip Code
    68. Michael Neff 14222
    67. OLD MAN 3 When I was Byron's age I used to drive around in my 'Model T.' Gas was a penny per gallon. Why can't he just act like me when I was a young lad. The girls used to dig me as I drove around with my flannel scarf flapping in the breeze. I was respected because I looked cool. Nobody dissed me on the internet back then (at least that I can remember). 66. Summer Flaherty
    65. Greg Evans
    64. TED KENNEDY Take it from me Mayor - don't drive your own car.
    63. Geraldine ferraro The mayor should get a silver "Delorean" with gull doors. He'd be the coolest mayor in the world popping out of that thing.
    62. DD He should also get cousin Daisy to get her redneck girlfriends (with big lung sacks) to act as his entourage. I say get Byron out of that suit and into a set of overalls. We could also get him to lead the cops on exciting car chases around town. Mac Gipson could change his name to Boss Hogg and he could raise his clenched fist toward Byron and yell "Why You..." while Byron eludes him.
    61. Rosco P. Coltrane Bo and Luke Duke used to drive around Hazzard County in THEIR own car. Why is the mayor any different? He should get a Orange Dodge Charger or maybe a talking one like Knight Rider - that way the mayor would have someone to talk to when he's driving home from Albany trips.
    60. Bob McCarthy I hear Satish Mohan gets driven around Amherst in a stretch limousine. I read that on Lenny's (I mean Gramigna's) site so it must be true. One News Plaza Buffalo NY
    59. OLD TIMER 2 In the old days, we used to walk to city hall in blinding snowstorms for miles (uphill - both ways). These kid mayors think they have it so hard. I say take away his car and make him walk everywhere.
    58. Buck Rogers I'm sick of paying for everybody's transportation. These damn astronauts should use their OWN rockets to get to the moon.

    57. The Why Guy Give up da car or I'll do a bad story on you . WGRZ 259 Delaware Ave Buffalo NY 14202

    54. Jeffrey Knight
    53. MARTIN KEMP 82 NORTH PEARL 14202
    52. Sammy Hoyt I couldn't run for mayor because I poked my interns. Now I can only continue to nag the mayor ...
    51. Felix Unger Why stop at taking his car away. Let's pin him down and shave his head too so he can look like Britney Spears when she flipped out.
    50. Rosa Parks Did you hear about the dyslexic devil worshipper? He sold his soul to Santa.
    49. Rodney King People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along? Can we get along? Can we stop making it, making it horrible for the older people and the kids?...It’s just not right. It’s not right. It’s not, it’s not going to change anything. We’ll, we’ll get our justice....Please, we can get along here. We all can get along. I mean, we’re all stuck here for a while. Let’s try to work it out. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to beat it. Let’s try to work it out LA
    48. Mary Rose Gaughan I also see city Vehicles parked on my street all the time. Oh course I live across from a police station. Does that count?
    47. MIKE HUNT HERTZ. PLEASE SCRATCH IT. Porn Town NY
    46. OLD TIMER In my day, the fireman used to go to fires in their own cars with a garden hose in the trunk. The cops used to walk the beat in the ghetto. And the mayor used to use a pogo stick or skateboard (weather permitting of course) to get to city hall in the morning. I say bring back the good old days. USA
    45. Carl Reiner Why stop at the mayor? I say take the garbage trucks away from the garbage men. Let them carry the trash to the dump in their own cars like the rest of us. 14222

    44. Brooke Hammer
    43. Buffalo Rocks Let's stop wasting everybody's time on an argument as lame as should the mayor have a city car. Of course he should. Let's get to the real issues of turning this titanic of a ship around - not this stupid side show.
    42. Patricia A. Moran-Guiati my street alone has city vehicles parked at night
    41. Colin Eager 14201
    40. JODIE FOSTER I signed this petition to impress John Hinkley, Jr. New York NY
    39. John Doe Would someone start a petition against these stupid petitions? Anytown USA
    38. Sam Hoyt I'm looking for new interns. No experience necessary. Albany
    37. Rubin Kincade I have an old school bus that used to belong to the Partridge Family and I'll let it go cheap. Have your Mayor give me a call... he can reach me through Shirley Jones office. Come on - get happy! Los Angeles CA
    36. morgan meheran
    35. Billy Fuccillo Hey Byron, I can get you into something cheap... a really clean deal. Give me a call and we'll set something up. It'll be HUGE!!! Grand Island NY

    32. Cletus Da maier is a good gui. I lives in a trailer down by da river. I tink da maier needs to ride in a pickup truck like every person i know. Trailer Park City US of A
    31. Daniel J. Nolan
    30. Gandhi - I feel that your mayor should drive a dune buggy, That way he'll find "total consciousness." Saskatoon CANADA ehh
    29. Michael Tritto, Jr. 14209
    28. Jeffrey Dahmer I use teflon pans. I don't want my guests sticking around after dinner.
    27. ELIZABETH Murrett FINALLY! 14211
    26. Brian Higgins Has anyone seen Jim Keane?... He won't return my calls. South Buffalo Go Kearns
    25. marty marusewski JUST DO IT DUMMY 44 merrimac 14214
    24. Oprah Winfrey I'm sick of the mayor acting like a mayor. He needs to drive himself in his own car so that he looks a lot less mayor-like. He should also go to work in a tee-shirt and torn pants too. He should drink beer and toss the cans out the window to prove he's just like the rest of us. Who does this guy think he is?.. the mayor or something? Chicago 60611
    23. Hoss Cartwright When I was a youngin', my pappy told me to ride a horse to work. That's what I've been doin' now for years. Byron needs to get himself and his posse a bunch of horses and chase cattle through downtown. As mayor he should be no different than me. Little House on the Prarie

Looks to me as if a few people are trying to say "I think we have bigger problems to focus time and energy on", but that's just a theory.
These kind of postings are certainly nothing new. I just can't help but wonder, if this is such an important issue, why wasn't the petition a traditional "pen and paper" one?
Yes, it would be nice to open things up via technological advances, but looking at other local forums, it's been obvious we're just not there yet. So why chance it with important issues?
I'd also like to know why SUWNY posters are being chastised for a BRO "thing"? Do you have knowledge of SUWNY members making those anonymous petition signings?

    SUWNY: emphatically ANTI-Reform

Here is a post about the on-line petition from Glenn Gramigna, now-"divorced" former writer for "pay-for-praise" politcal publisher Joe Illuzzi.

    Obviously, Gramigna thought it important.

However, every (anonymous)( SUWNY poster, including outspoken "Christians", thinks the status quo in the 2nd poorest US city is just fine . . . & damn it, do not dare to crtiticize it.

Along the way the SUWNY TOS to "make Bflo a better place" has been lost. Now the TOS is apparently . . . . (ANONYMOUS) SUWNY posters "just wanna have fun!"

Moral courage is not one of SUWNY's stong points, despite all the discussions of those (anonymous) posters certain of 'eternal rewards'?

EXPRESS YOUR VIEWS ON THE MAYOR'S TAKE-HOME CAR AND DRIVER BY SIGNING ON-LINE PETITION

Do you object to Mayor Brown's use of a 24/7 city car and driver? If you do, a community group known as Save Buffalo is circulating a petition asking the Mayor to give up both. More information including their press release follows:

Community Activists to Petition End of Use of City Owned Vehicles by Public Officials

Buffalo, NY – A group of Community Activists in the City of Buffalo have mobilized an effort to end the use of City owned vehicles by elected officials. The group has called on Mayor Brown to stop utilizing his City Owned vehicle immediately, which Brown has refused to do. Undaunted the group has launched an online petition drive for the Common Council to do everything in its power to ban the practice of use of City owned vehicles by elected officials.

The petition can be signed and viewed at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/sba/petition.html

"The City of Buffalo is losing jobs and people, and it is time for these do nothing politicians to make the same scarifies they ask us to make," says the project coordinator.

The Group intends to collect signatures for the next five weeks, and submit the results to all local elected officials.

    About SAVE Buffalo:

Save Buffalo is a collaboration of political and community activists, businesspersons, and persons from various walks of life, dedicated to making Buffalo a viable place to live and work.

I think it's important also, but again, I ask- why do an on-line petition that just about anyone with a brain could foresee as being the victim of a virtual "anonymous drive-by"?
If it's that damned important, make sure it's done the right way!! Take it to the people, don't sit back and make the people come to you.
What makes WNY a better place to live is hugely subjective. Ask 20 people and don't be surprised if you get 20 answers. Mr. Graminga's site is strictly political. Do we have political problems in WNY? Hell yeah! Is it the only or even the most important problem? Hell no!!

Anyone that is not a resident of Buffalo has no business signing that petition. That's a City of Buffalo matter. A Lancaster resident like myself or Minneapolis resident like Mr Kern really wouldn't qualify to sign the petition. So, why are people getting their panties (briefs) in an uproar??

Then the petition may have some chance of legitimacy.
