why would the gov't not allow the oil to be drilled if we TRULY had more than Saudi Arabia?

My only guess is that maybe they want us to consume all the middle east and Russian oil first, then we'll be the only ones with any large reserves left?

When this trend first was known , a President for the people in America would have stood up to this gas issue.

I can hear him now " we as proud americans will not cower down to the middle east and their gas prices, we as a nation will find alternatives to eliminate this problem in the future. America will never be held hostage economically by any other nation.
