    Question Bertha's on Hertel

I'm told that Bertha's on Hertel will re-open (if not already ?) under new ownership , anyone aware of this ? Probably a new name also ? Bought/leased by Joe Golombek's ex-aide Ken Kerr .............
    Nothing gold can stay...............

I was there when this airhead, shallow lady who used to live across the street from me opened up Bertha's, becoming the first owner;Man, was there a lot to clean out and the basement(s) below Bertha's are (were) like something out of a horror movie!!

It originally was supposed to have a 50's diner theme

How many people have owned Bertha's and is it some kind of North Buffalo landmark now?
Coincidence is the word we use when we can't see the levers and pulleys.

That's too bad. I've gone to Bertha's several times but they close at 2 PM and I always forget.

They had a regular coterie of customers and I wonder what they'll do now?

I had to laugh when I went there for breakfast, because they let you know very clearly if you sat in the wrong place. Once it was almost empty so I sat in a booth and the waitress asked when the other people were coming.

But it was a chummy place for the regulars and the kind that Buffalonians look for. I'm always sorry to see something like this close.

But will it still be the mom and pop diner it was? With the cranky waitresses who flirt with unattached male customers? Kind of like Alice's?

    But I'll try it out!

    I like that word.
Coterie--an intimate and often exclusive group of persons with a unifying common interest or purpose
There is another breakfast cafe on Hertel, always forget the name but it's the address, i.e. 1908 Hertel or some such.

When did Dave close the place??? Why?????
That was my daily breakfast stop.
Let me articulate this for you:
"I'm not locked in here with them. They're locked in here with me!!"

hip , if Bertha's was your "daily" stop for breakfast , where have you been stopping for some months now ? We're not talkin' 'bout Big Bertha's on Dodge Street ?

Well, since I lived less than a block from the place for 9 years and have been in Peoria, IL for the last TWO years...
    What does that tell you?

I jsut can't believe that Berthas closed.
    It was always busy.
Perhaps if it stayed open, even just inthe summer, to take advantage of the evening foot trafic on Hertel, which I'm sure has grown in the last few years, and the North Park theater crowd (Which, as a coffee house, it did, as brief as it was open), Dave would still be there.
    He was agreat guy.
    I'm just shocked.
It's one of the places that I listed as one of my favorite spots in Buffalo.
