    Collins on Metro Gov't ?

Anyone here know what Collins stance is on regionalism & a "metro" form of WNY ? Consolidation would have to help if we could actually combine the 7 or 8 counties into one giant metropolis..........

Good question. But I don't remember much being said about it. It may not have been an issue he identified as part of his platform. There must be some interviews though that compared the candidates on that issue.

From the "20 QUESTIONS" asked of the candidates in the snooze, 11/4/2007 (sorry, don't have THE LINK, but I saved the paper)...

"Question 8: What will be your approach to the issue of regionalism...

COLLINS: Regionalism around here has taken on a bad meaning. The result is there's not a level of trust today. We have to earn that back.

Collins said the problem is that Giambra viewed regionalism as a single, metropolitan governement - an unrealistic goal. The result is that town, city and village officials are now skeptical of the concept.

My administration will focus on rebuilding that trust and, frankly, taking the easy ones first.

Collins said the current city-county parks agreement could work if the two sides negotiate a more suitable agreement. He also thinks snow plowing is another opportunity."

Later in the article it states "Collins favors a regional approach to planning, especially when it comes to economic development."

This was also discussed at the Central Terminal debate. Channel 2 has video segments of the debate here:

I cannot get wgrz videos to play, so I don't know which segment this topic is in.
