Hair of the dog: The animal lovers who turned their dead pets' coats into woolly jumpers
Last updated at 08:34am on 19th March 2008

Their beloved dogs may have gone to the great kennel in the sky, but for Beth and Brian Willis they will always be close.

Because the couple have had his and hers jumpers knitted out of the hair moulted by the pedigree pets and spun into yarn.

And they insist the bizarre garments keep them warm and dry no matter how bad the winter weather gets.

The Martha is doing that with her Chow Paw Paw. She sends it to:
    http://www.vipfibers.com/
That website lists the different breeds they spin fibers from.

I can't really see myself wearing a Rottweiler scarf or jacket or...
Maybe I should start saving it though, so my Rotties can wear sweaters made from their own hair. Or not.

awww c'mon alice, let your hair down, so to speak

The part of me that says recycling is a good thing thinks it's nice to put something like that to good use.
The part of me that goes to the closet looking for something to wear says"ewwwwwwww!"

OK, that's it, I have a friend who collects fur from his cats and stuffs little pillows; he and his ex-girlfriend used to give them to one another as signs of their love for each other and their cats. Only now is it hitting me how really odd that was...

I have a neighbor who offered to make me a sweater out of my dog's hair. She told me never to wear it in the rain, because it will start to smell strongly of dog.

Just to clarify. The offer didn't mean I'd have to kill my dog. She would weave the fibers from dog hair clippings I saved from when the dog gets his coat trimmed.
