Spitzer is not going to get nothing. Trust me deals behind closed doors are being worked out...I'll say it again power has its privilege. So far, its gone from a federal rap down to a misdemeanor..I thought the law is the law once written it stands. Now we really know there are two types of laws in this country those for the little man like us, and those for the powerful like Spitzer. He needs to go to jail, and lose his family, and get disbarred in NYS end of story. Grrrrr

Again, these things are in no way what would happen (aside from the family part, possibly) to a regular person hit with a solicitation charge. Has he been charged for or admitted to anything else?

Do you know what the average penalty is for people who are not governors of New York involved in the same type of crime? From what I've read, "Johns" rarely go to prison in Federal investigations. "Lose his family?" Are you really that petty? If he pleads to a felony he will lose his license to practice law. Even if he pleads down a lesser crime, which is something not reserved solely for the powerful, he still runs the risk of getting disbarred.

You're partly right. Normal folks don't normally lose their jobs or have their sex lives made the fodder for mindless "news" chatter or have people cheering for them to "lose their famil[ies]" when they are caught soliciting a prostitute.

As far as I'm concerned, prostitution should have been legalized a long time ago. But Spitzer also knowingly broke the law. Again and again, apparently. He didn't just slip up; he knew the law -- fair or unfair -- and broke it anyway.

He also knew when he ran for governor, that he would be expected by the citizens to uphold the law. And he didn't. So, I reluctantly agree he should resign.
