The rolling impact of the 11-day strike against American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. has reached multiple General Motors Corp. plants, including for the first time GM's Tonawanda engine facility.
Starting Monday, March 10, 24 workers on the plant's second shift who produce the crank for Inline-5 cylinder engines will be laid off for one week. Production at the GM assembly plant served by the Tonawanda facility has been affected by the American Axle strike that began Feb. 26.
The local plant has 1,800 employees, including 1,520 hourly workers.
This week, the ripple effect hit Delphi Thermal Systems in Lockport, when 190 workers in the 2,600-member workforce were temporarily laid off
