SALAMANCA ” In the early morning hours, Tuesday, members of the Salamanca Police Department tactical team, in conjunction with agents from the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) acted on a tip that illegal immigrants had taken up residence in the City, on Elm Street.
The raid netted eight individuals, believed to be of Mexican heritage, according to Troy Westfall, chief of police for the City of Salamanca.
The eight are believed to have been employed by an area business.
“We are looking into the ownership of the house (the immigrants were found in),” Westfall said. “Right now, the ownership is kind of curious and we are looking to find out (who owns the property).
“There is an ongoing investigation. There could be more in the area,” he said.
The eight arrested were turned over to agents from border patrol and were no longer in the City, according to Westfall.
City police were continuing the investigation as of this morning.
Hmmm ... illegal immigrants in Salamanca ... could there be a labor shortage in Salamanca? Don't tell me that Seneca casino has sparked some economic development!
