We also paid for EVERY other President to hit the campaign trail! And his approval rate is much higher than the GOP in Congress has now. We don't buy the buses, Obama PAYS to lease them. Just like George W Bush PAID when he used Air Force 1 on the trail.

Bush's approval rating was around 60% this far in... not 39% he just won again in 2004 with a 48% rating... If Obama stays below 40% he has no chance, face it.

Think of it as a stimulus for the American bus building industry.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama is barnstorming the heartland to boost US jobs in a taxpayer-financed luxury bus the government had custom built -- in Canada, The Post has learned.

The $1.1 million vehicle, one of two that Quebec-based Prevost sold the government, has been tricked out by the Secret Service with state-of-the-art security features and creature comforts.

It's a VIP H3-45 model, the company's top of the line, and is used by major traveling rock bands.

    "That's the more luxurious model,"

Godh, remember when Bush was President, He used to fly on Southwest everywhere he went, Or he used to use that ELECTRIC version of Air Force 1 when he went on vacation. Seems like the REPUBLICAN candidate is going to USE THE BUS too! $2.2 million for Secret Service's new armored buses The Secret Service has revealed to Talking Points Memo that the government has purchased two armored buses for use by President Barack Obama and Republican candidates in the 2012 presidential campaign and beyond. The agency initially declined to tell TPM whom the buses were bought from, but based on some searches of federal databases it looked to me like the seller was Hemphill Brothers Coach Co. of Whites Creek, Tenn. Last July, the Service signed a contract for nearly $2.2 million with the firm, according to a federal procurement database. (The entry doesn't specify the number of buses.) "The contract you found is the contract," Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said Thursday morning. "It's two buses for $1.1 million each." "We've been overdue for having this asset in our protective fleet for some time," Donovan said. "We've been protecting presidential candidates and vice presidential candidates all the way back to the 1980s using buses during bus tours." In the past, the service leased buses and then tried to fit them with extra security gear. But that can't provide the assurance of starting from scratch. "They're certainly going to be used for bus tours around the country," as well as other events, Donovan said. "When protectees go to remote areas, go camping or on a motorcyle trip, we''ll bring the asset out as a mobile security facility." (Kind of like a congressman's mobile office, I guess.) The final cost of the two new buses will exceed $2.2 million, because the Service prefers to add its own aftermarket security features to vehicles. Donovan said the service will do so in this instance as well. The $1.1 million price tag is roughly in line with costs for custom-made, luxury motorcoaches. This company quotes prices of $1.5 million to $2.5 million for a new luxury bus. UPDATE: This post has been updated with comment from the Secret Service.

Next year, when the REPUBLICAN candidate is tooling around in one of those buses I expect all of you to complain about that carbon "Bootprint" also. How did President Bush travel? Did he fly on an electric airplane? Did he fly to Texas in a GLIDER? Did he hop on a train? Was he riding around in a ****ing PRIUS?

Did all of you miss this??

    As for vacation time....

Presidential vacations: How does Obama compare?

There has been criticism of the president's vacation at this time. But how does the number of vacation days the president has spent compare to his predecessors? CBS Radio's Mark Knoller has kept track of presidential vacations for years and supplied the data.

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch.

Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off -- 28 days.

Just a reminder that the government keeps track of these numbers.

    For President Bush.

Number Of Political Fund-Raisers Attended By President Bush: 338

Amount Or Money Raised At These Fund-Raisers: $802,586,070
(Some campaigns refused to disclose the amounts)

Number Of Flights On Air Force One: 1,674
    (Source: Presidential Airlift Group)

Number Of Miles Flown On Air Force One: 1,490,698
    (Presidential Airlift Group)

Number Of Visits To Camp David: 149, totaling all or part of 487 days.

Number Of Visits To His Texas Ranch: 77, totaling all or part of 490 days.

Number Of Out Of Town Domestic Trips: 609
(That's not counting Camp David visits or bike riding outings)

    Number Of Foreign Trips: 49

487+490= 977. The average federal employee gets 30 days PAID VACATION per year.

    977 / 8 = 122 days PER YEAR on vacation.

Wonder what kind of mileage the Prez's buses get? He's getting ready to push legislation for our cars that will require at least 35.5 mpg by 2016 and 54.6 mpg by 2025. I bet a vehicle that gets 54.6 mpg will probably do 0 to 60 in....uh.....10 minutes.

All the more reason to go electric. 0-60 in under 4 seconds.

That's true. And electric motors have maximum horsepower and torque at 1 rpm. An internal combustion engine like the one in my car has 437 horsepower but it has to get to 4500 rpm to have that. At 1000 rpm I probably have less than half that. You ever check out the performance specs on a Tesla? Pretty impressive.
