Cheektowaga Police to survey Cheektowaga schools directly via cameras

Cheektowaga Police to survey Cheektowaga schools directly via cameras

All four of the Cheektowaga school districts (Cleve-Hill, Maryvale, Cheektowaga-Sloan, and Cheektowaga Central) and Harkness Career & Technical Center will have surveillances cameras installed throughout their hallways to monitor the buildings.

The Cheektowaga Police Department will man the surveillance camera video stream for the safety of the school children, teachers, etc.

Go check this out..in the metroWNY

Do the other people running the other towns in erie county do this?

So how much does a person get to sit in front of the screens all day?

The estimated cost is $30,872 for the equipment and installation. Maintenance will be billed at $95 per hour for two workers.
What two workers? and how many hours of maintenance?

I don't think the idea having someone sitting at the station occasionally looking at video from the schools will make a difference or is worth the money spent. You won't stop anything from happening. It's gonna happen in front of a camera anyways so what is the point? Maybe save 72 hours of video so if something does happen you have some proof.

I read in the Bee they spent 30,000 for microwave equipment to transmit the video to the station. Couldn't they have just streamed a feed from the camera over the internet? Versus having the maintenance cost and extra microwave equipment?

Maintenance will be billed at $95 per hour for two workers. This is nuts I'll sit there and watch cameras for nothing.

I found these 2 articles regarding Lancaster school's security cameras.
    Lancaster bee - July 7
    http://www.lancasterbee.com/news/201...y_cameras.html
    and Buffalo News- July 8

It states that that the district will set up a command center. Does not state whether it will be within the schools maybe monitored by the SRO's.

I think we are confusing the issue. Monitoring is watching the screen. Most likely will be performed by the dispatchers and part of their regular duties. Maintenance will be done when the system has a problem. Most likely done by the suppliers.

When I went to the PD open house a few years back, the dispatchers had monitors with some shots of the mall up. I think that they just have them watching them when they are not taking calls. Could be wrong, but thats my guess.
