    Holding our leaders accountable

So, this is my 1000th post on SUWNY. It came up much faster than I would have thought. I'm not usually one to commemorate milestones such as this, but what the heck.
I was going to post something on the humorous side, but nixed that. I then decided on the controversial route, but much as I tried to think of something that would shake things up, I have to face the fact that I am plain vanilla thru and thru. Oh well.
Therefore the topic I want to dwell on for this momentous occasion is:
It's not all about the follow-thru and holding people accountable!
I am 100% in support of holding our local pols accountable for their actions. I would like to remind us that doing so is not the end of our obligation. It's not too early to start gathering information and support for individuals that are at least CAPABLE of effecting change in the first place. How can we hope to hold our officials accountable if the people we vote into office are not really capable of making changes or in some cases even, those that can make a few good decisions on our behalf? We also have an obligation once we find and elect a good candidate to get the hell out of the way and let them do what they have to do. I'm not saying Elect and Forget. I'm saying recognize and support.
This message board (thank you Res) is a great place to exchange ideas and opinions in that regard, but let's not pat ourselves on the back and declare we have done our duty by participating in exchanges on a message board. Otherwise, we're as culpable as those we elect that are not doing their jobs. Complain away, but be aware those complaints are empty and meaningless if that's all you contribute. (that goes for ME too!)

Mostly all of the politicians of whom I'd like to be held accountable are ones I didn't vote for.

    Congrats on 1,000

I believe every post made by an individual shows the current number of posts made to date when you view it, regardless of the date that particular post itself was made. I just checked my first few posts since joining and they show the current number.
