TORONTO -- Toronto police are shocked that no one has come forward to identify the man who dropped a baby off in a freezing cold parking garage.
Despite an urgent appeal from police, investigators say they have received only a few calls about the child's identity. Now, authorities are expanding their search for clues across the border to here in western New York.
Constable Wendy Drummond says it's possible someone from this area drove the child to Toronto and abandoned her before returning back to the States.
Police have released grainy video images of a late 1990s green Ford Escort, believed to be linked to the abandoned child.
The infant, who is about eight months old, spent two hours in minus 14 degree weather and was found lying face down on a cement floor by a passerby.
The girl is in good condition and recovering at the Hospital for Sick Children.
If you know anything that could help police, you can call them at (416) 808-3305 or (416) 222-TIPS or you can provide information on line by clicking on the link to the right of the story.
Meanwhile, a child rights advocate says Canada's justice system does little to prevent cases of child abandonment.
Grant Wilson says child abandonment is in the Criminal Code but carries only a two-year maximum sentence and cases are rarely brought before the courts.

whoever did that to this child is a scumbag.
Aww, look at her, she's beautiful
Poor baby. What an aweful start to life.
First Amendment rights are like muscles, if you don't exercise them they will atrophy.
she certainly is beautiful.
I can't believe 2 yrs is the most anyone would get for doing that to a baby!!!!
In this kind of weather, that is not abandonment, it is attempted murder imo
me too.Originally Posted by buffy

I suppose it is a better way for her, the authorities say she had bruises consistant w/abuse. I'm glad her parents decided to abandon her so that someone who really wants her can give her a better life. At least the parents dressed her in layers and didn't throw her in a dumpster, or kill her.
Shes so young I dont think she will remember this thank god..
They should of left her at a hospital or fire station though..
