    Poverty

Poverty: The condition in which a person lacks the essentials for a minimum standard of life including food, safe drinking water, sanitation, shelter, health care and basic education.

That's from .50 cents a day in the most undeveloped nations to $20.00 a day in the most.

2% of the richest people n the world own more than 1/2 the planet.
More than 2 Billion people in the world cannot afford to feed and properly take care of their families.
    854 Million face starvation.
25 Million live below the poverty line in Eastern Europe. 36 Million in the U.S. 60 Million in Latin America, 300 Million in Africa, And in Asia, 1 Billion people.

    That is ridiculoussly sad.
1/2 of the world's population live on less than $2.00 a day!

Why is this not an issue in the coming presidential elections??
Let me articulate this for you:
"I'm not locked in here with them. They're locked in here with me!!"

Here's a tip to those barely eeeking out an existance and not knowing where their next meal is coming from:

    STOP PROCREATING YA DUMB PUCKS!
The difference between taxes and robbery is the mode of coercion.

Cause they don't CARE!!!!!!!!!! When people start smashing things and breaking the law they might take notice..... When they have a gun barrel pointing at their face then they will take notice. Its the truth

Whats always strange to me if many dont realize the amount of poor we have right here in Buffalo...
Ive seen seniors who worked all their lives and cant afford to pay their water bill and have to walk to the gas station to wash up.
Ive seen the working poor who get up at 5am,get the children fed and dressed, take them to school, get on 2 buses to be at work by 8am and on payday they couldnt even afford to go to see a movie.
I know an afterschool program where on fridays they give the kids a few canned goods because they know the kids wont be eating on Saturday & Sunday..
Ive seen people eating out of garbage dumpsters, sleeping under bridges, found frozen to death in vacant houses all right here in Buffalo...
Then Ive seen the lazy who take advantage of the system and live way better than many of us..
I have no medical coverage so unless Im having a stroke or bleeding to death I wont go to the hospital. And many take advantage of free healthcare making it more impossible for others to get help because they drive up the costs..
Poverty knows no color.. everynight there are plenty of children going to bed hungry right here in our city... and that bothers me alot!

    Poverty is a joke?

    free meal at McDonalds
I was hopeful that this would be a serious discussion on poverty.

Instead, within several posts the discussion again turned into a cynical joke.

    WHY?

The top 1% own most of the wealth in America. And the different segments of the US population blame each other for their living conditions, and that's what Bush wants, because it divides us all and makes us subservient to their purposes!

And I've been through it all, and I know what it's like to just be happy to get this day's dinner for the kids.

I can only answer for myself. For rightnow, while having my morning coffee, I didn't feel like letting my brain go into worry mode about my finance problems. So sometimes I have to look at a more humorous side of the story. I agree with what Michele posted. I've said it before on this mb. lets take care of our own before looking at or taking a quiz on how well you know the state of the countries poverty level.

No doubt about it---our country, our city, our children---first!
