    Cell Phone - 50
    Cable/Internet - 100
    Gas (Auto) - 50
    Auto Insurance - 80
    Food - 1000

    total - 2010

You need to NET 468 a week to pay that.
    That's 11.70 an hour NET!!!!

Before taxes, you're talking, what, 14, 15 bucks an hour?/
And that's to just get by.

That's where I am, but I gross 10.00 an hour, plus small bonuses.
Here's how my family's basic expenses break down (We're a family of 5):
Gas- $170 (that's the year round plan, not just winter months)
    Electric- $100
    Landline- $50
    Cell- $50
    Cable/Internet- $100
    Gas (car)- $200
    Auto Insurance- $108
    Food-$500
(Left off my mortgage payt details)
Water bill-? Don't remember off hand how much per quarter.
    Garbage Fee-?

We're a one car family, with no car payt.

The above list doesn't include entertainment, school tuition, clothes, church/charity contributions, home/car repairs and maint., credit card bills

We're not living in poverty, but if I break down my bills to the absolute essentials (and not include the luxuries), we're near $2000 a month too.

    Yeah, that's right.

I forgot the life insurance policies and homeowner's insurance!

Hard work today barely pays the bills, if you're an hourly employee.
you are describing the majority of middle class hard working people with young families. I see no other alternative than hard work and a cheery attitude that comes from living the good life. A life of honest work, positive interactions w/people, loving daughters to raise, another step in the right direction. The girls need stability.

Yeah, incidentals, toys for the kids, McDonalds ocasionally.....

Welcome to American Middle Class Econimics 101

At the costs stated here, it's impossoble to save money, which only hurts the economy that much more.

It's scary. Now, add in people like my Mom, who's 75 yrs old!! And just went back to work at one of the Clarence schools in the cafetaria, because her fixed income and pension weren't cutting it.
Let me articulate this for you:
"I'm not locked in here with them. They're locked in here with me!!"

It's not a joke.. It's sad that people do things like that. It all adds to the cost of living for everyone else.

All costs can be controlled within reason. It is these recurring luxury times that nickel and dime you… An excellent example of this is cell phones…….. Why do people insist on paying huge cell phone bills every month? They choose plans that they never even use the full benefits of.. I have a pet peeve with cell phone companies trying to always up the service…… Oh you want a new phone.. New plan and agreement time….Sprint is not my favorite though I current have them….

Going out to eat all the time is expensive.. Cooking could be fun….. Early January I was in the area where there was a FuddRuckers restaurant. It is a hamburger place that use to be the rage of the town. Kind of like Krispy not so Kreme use to be…… I walked in and looked at the menu on the wall. Cheeseburger, fries, and a milkshake $8.99… That is high. For that kind of money I would like to be seated and served… I walked out went home. Opened the refrigerator took some fresh hamburger out made a cheeseburger, melted some Crisco fried some French fries, made a milk shake and saved about $5.40 cents. My point is a little time could save a lot… Be self sufficient and aware of the costs….

Heating screw that I am not going to freeze my ass off. The thermostat stays at 68-70…. It is strange because that two degrees difference makes a big difference to me for some reason. 68 is uncomfortable cool while 70 is perfectly comfortable. Do not listen to these heat experts or national fuel about lowering the thermostat and then raising it when you come home…. It takes a lot natural gas to raise the temp in a house. More so than maintaining the same temp. Perfect example was when we had the Oct storm a year from last. Everybody’s house was turning into refrigerators then when the power cam back on and the furnaces fired up it took a lot of fuel. The gas bill was over $400.00 for the Oct billing!! Set it and leave it.

Electric don’ to dark but in some situations use a compact fluorescent bulb in lamps. 18 watts on high versus 75 watts or 100 watts per bulb times 5 or 6 hours a day times 7 days a week.

Gas for the car… See if you could work from home may be one day a week…. If you have o go downtown to work consider a bus or form car pools and work out the differences you will encounter from your new car pool buddies.. You will have some…… Set times and do not expect people to wait around after work for you to stumble out the door. Tell your boss you do not pay me enough so I car pool and my car poolers are not tolerant of you holding them up waiting for me after work….

Also do not be so generous with offering to take people places........ Hey lets go to the store you are going there..... Stopping and going kills gas milage..... Not so much as traveling a constant speed. Once the car hits a gear ratio and keeps going the vehicle burns less fuel.

I don't know what your talking about with the poverty rate. I was refering to the guy stealing the McDonalds Food. His theft ads to everyone's cost of living. Someone ends up paying more to make up for the theft as in higher prices.

That and LAWSUITS settled by insurrance claims... Companies do not pay out for law suits insurrance companies do and if the insurrance premium goes up so does the cost of the product you buy. Remember that for all you people who are thinking about slipping on that banana peel on the floor of the supermarket... Gary we we ok with this one??????

The video that was posted was about stealing from mcdonalds. People like that cause everyone else to spend more of thier money. You quoted me comment and my comment was about that video.

What do the poverty rates have to do with the comment of mine you quoted?
