Supervisor Wallace C. Piotrowski disagreed and said the council member is in turn deceiving the pubic.
“You approve every budget,” he told Clarke, referring to the three consecutive budgets for years 2009-11. “We receive a chart listing every employee in this town ... it’s our duty as board members to review the documentation that’s provided to us ... if there’s a question, you should be saying, ‘Why is that person getting paid that much?’”
Piotrowski further noted that four residents — Rudy Russo, Karen Lucachik, Daniel Warren and Paula Minklei — each questioned the Town Board in 2009 as to why Kauderer was being paid the $70,000-plus salary.
“You didn’t say anything in those minutes,” Piotrowski said, noting that he and Councilwoman Sheila M. Meegan defended Kauderer at that time.
“So either you didn’t know, or you should have found out,” the supervisor told Clarke. “To tell the public that [Bielecki] did something we didn’t approve is absolutely false.”
Meegan said Friday that the purpose of the meeting was to be in compliance pursuant to the labor attorney’s advice.
“[Bielecki] did not know what he was doing was violating the contract of the union. That’s not your fault, but we know it’s wrong so let’s fix it,” she said.
