    Illegal Immigrants

This is a good question. Fits in well with the poll on providing services to illegals. If you favor not providing services to illegal immigrants, then you should believe that businessmen and citizens who hire illegals should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, including jail time, for providing them with jobs and income.

Will be interesting to seei what the totals for punishment will be and what excuses will be made to protect the employer of the illegals.

If you employ illegal, undocumented workers, you should be fined/jailed, whatever the proper punishment is. Period. End of story.

No we are not. THey will have to pay a little bit more for labor and we pay a few cents more per apple or what ever. I'm fine with it.

I would rather pay 5 cents more per apple then have $100's of dollars of my income in the form of property taxes/income tax/federal taxes go to support people who invaded our country. Immigrantion is fine if handled at the levels we all can afford. THAT"S WHY THERE ARE borders.

The people who are working on farms aren't on social services, so how, exactly, are you paying to support them?

A decent farmer would not hire illegal aliens in order to avoid maying the legal minimum wage, health care, pension, vacations, medicare, report them on your business income taxes, etc.

    It is like economic slavery.

    I suppose it depends.
If a farmer (who is a business person because that is what a farm is) is allowed to legally ask a person's immigration status, then yes they should be punished for hiring illegal aliens. However, if a farmer/business person is not allowed to ask, then no, they should not be held accountable.

What's the basis for asking? That a person speaks with an accent? That a person is non-white?

How would you like to questioned about your right to be in this country every time you went to the bank or the supermarket or applied for a job, etc? Puerto Ricans get this all the time, and they're American citizens.

The fact is that much of the "illegal immigrant" hysteria is being fueled by racism against Hispanics. I don't think that it's an accident that much of the anti-illegal immigrant sentiment comes from areas where prejudice against Mexicans has been a tradition going back to the 1800s or that a lot of right wing politicians embrace it since much of the RW ideology revolves around returning to "the good old days" when the deck was stacked to keep white men at the top of the heap -- or dunghill as it were.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.

    Why wouldn't one ask?
I'm asked every time I fill out a job application.
    Am I 18 years old?
    Do I have any felonies?
Am I a legal citizen of the USA?
I'm white and the only accent I have is that Buffalo whine.

    Illegals, get it!

Isn't this survey and thread supposed to be about hiring illegal immigrants?

Crabapples said it clearly and best:
If you employ illegal, undocumented workers, you should be fined/jailed, whatever the proper punishment is. Period. End of story.

Farmers would not go out of business if they hired documented, migrant, or U.S. citizen, workers. Why is there this belief that only illegals are working on farms? This is far from true. This is the corporate smoke screen about doom and gloom not only for the farmers, but for the consumer as well. Don't buy into their lies, folks.
