You know your from the East Side if...

#1) You may not be polish but you know somebody who makes homemade pierogi
#2) Even the crappiest house on your street puts up christmas lights
#3) You believe Dyngus Day should be an official holiday
#4) You are a master at pulling your car into very narrow driveways
#5) You know what a fruit cellar is
#6) You consider the Central Terminal sacred ground.
#7) Know atleast 3 taverns that serve fish fries with homemade potato salad
#8) You never understand why people consider the East Side scary..Now the West Side that's a different story.
#9) We know we have the best looking buildings in the city ..we are just waiting for the rest of the city to catch on..
#10) You know theres no Easter without a butter lamb on the table.

Sounds like your idea of the East Side is a very small segment of it.

You gonna say Bissell isn't scary??
    Or St. Luois St??
    Or Mozzelle??

    How abaut Bailey & Kensington??

What you call the East Side, I think I call Cheektowaga Line
Let me articulate this for you:

    I suppose.
My grandfather's family lived on Bisell from 1900 until hissister died in 2002.
The ONLY reason nothing happened to them, was because they had been there so long, and they watched generations of those kids grow up.

But still someone on Bissell either shoots or is shot every day, seemingly.

Residents will not leave their houses at night, and that's gospel truth.

Alot of those neighbors came to the funerals, and talk about living there.
And these are the parents of the kids that are doing it.

I'm a relative and I would not go there at night, and I know some of them from hanging out there as a kid.

    Exclamation

You know you're from the East side when:

    1) You wear a personalized bullet proof vest
    2) You drive to work in a tank
    3) You only have "guard dogs." No "pets."
    4) The police don't take calls on your street
    5) The old ladies are better armed than the drug dealers
    6) You never have a broken window:They're all bullet-proof glass
    7) You clean up your yard & lawn with your flame thrower
    8) The corner store sells rocket launchers

    And its all true!

Hey! I'm from North Buffalo and THIS neighborhood is going to hell FAST!
Coincidence is the word we use when we can't see the levers and pulleys.

hey, I gotta say I love Buffalo poles. they really great people

hey, I gotta say I love Buffalo poles. they really great people

I remember my mother and grandmother used to love to rent to poles because they said they were the cleanest tenants a landlord could rent.

unfortunately its very sad that the majority of Buffalos former ethnic neighborhoods have really decayed and been demolished. The only real ethnic neighborhood left is the South Buffalo irish.

The poles and germans have moved further east like West Seneca and Cheektowaga

The italians left their westside (some for the former jewish neighborhood in north buffalo)

Yet we still have great attachments to our ancestral neighborhoods. We still drive down certain streets and check out the old neighborhood...and who lived where...what store was where etc.

Wah Wah Wahhhhh. You guys are pathetic.

Michele, good post. There are too many people that take perverse pleasure in putting down anything they can about the city and are usually the same people that never actually go there. "Let's all perpetuate the tired old stereotypes instead of trying to improve it!"

    Un-****ing-believable.

    300 Miles...
I always consider the source.. These are the same people who will never show up at a SUWNY party and tell us their username.. They grow balls when behind a computer screen but in person they are docile rather submissive creatures Ive seen it all before..They arent originals.. just followers in life.
