    Ford Woodlawn closing !

Talks are going on right now in Detroit about the future of Ford, specifically the future of more than one thousand jobs at the company's stamping plant on Route 5 in Woodlawn.

Those jobs were literally on the line during Thursday's negotiations. But, 2 On Your Side has learned that while Buffalo's Ford plant was on the list of plants slated to close, it is now off that list and those jobs are now safe.

That information came to 2 On Your Side from two highly placed United Auto Workers union sources, both of whom are at the national negotiating table in Detroit.

There are about one thousand workers at the stamping plant in Buffalo. They make parts for Ford's new crossover vehicle, the Ford Edge.

Ford has already identified 10 plants to close nationwide, and has said it needs to close another six plants during these negotiations. While our sources tell us Buffalo was on the list to close, it has been saved.

One source in Detroit also tells 2 On Your Side, that the UAW is making every effort to see that Ford invests in new products in facilities that were slated to close, which includes Buffalo's stamping plant.

A deal is expected to be reached by the weekend.

Good news the plant will stay open a little a longer
their will be $100,000 to $140,000 buy outs starting at the end of the year
to get rid of the workers as the work is phased out over the
    next 2 years
The Bad news is The plant will be closed by 2010/2011
and the remaining work shifted to plants in Michigan
It's a done deal and it's in the contract

It is kinda scary, or at least it makes you think, because the last few editions of the Economic Census has shown that Erie County has consistently lost more and more manufacturing jobs. Meanwhile, the New York State Department of Labor mentions that cashiers and service jobs are among those growing...

Of course, manufacturing brought the larger wages and benefits and cashier and service jobs don't.
I'm just here to make people laugh. And to confuse people. Oh, and to irritate people.

Okay, instead of waiting until 2011 to whine about a bunch of people out of work, what do you do?

If you worked there and had 17 years with Ford what do you do today in anticipation of 2011?

Or you meet with ford and say what must be done and see what that is before belly acheing about it.

Or they really just don't need the production at all and then well your stuck. Could they retool the plant for anything else or is the plant built to build only one thing

IMO... The parties have already gone down the road of exploring what should and could be done. That's why it is in the contract of how and when. If it were me, I would start to take care of bills so it won't hit to hard when it does happen and line something up to get into. I would have to weigh the options of waiting to recieve the buy out vs an opportunity for employment somewhere now. maybe it wouldn't be as much money, but it would be steady.

Plus I could still belly ache about it no matter what I chose

    This is great news.

Workers now have 2 or 3 years to plan for their future career or retirement after the plant closes.

Workers will get a generous $100K+ buyout packages.

Buffalo will be able to gradually wean itself away from a doomed Michigan employer and diversify into non-manufacturing industries.

    Pretty good scenario!

I absolutely detest disingenuous threads, and the people who create them.

Why is this thread titled "Ford Woodlawn closing !" ??

Ford Plant Rescued From The Chopping Block

Notice that the whole part at the end of VegasDud's post about the plant closing in 2010/2011 is NOT in the article. He just wrote that himself.

If people like Stevenco and Woody are banned for their bull****, VegasDude should also be banned for posting false information.

Vegas Dude is a scumbag who should be taken as such.

As long as you know you're dealing with such, then it's really not an issue.

That's interesting... I watched both video clips WGRZ has posted on their site and neither one mentioned anything about another planned closing date for Ford.

If VegasDud or anybody else is going to post articles they should also post a link. And if they're going to add their own comments to the end, they should make it clear it's not part of the article, but their own added text. Vegas has posted lies before. Others will agree.

    man.....

Buffalo is truly dead. I used to think there might be a revival, but all that will be left here in 10 years is "old money" on the parkways and $8/hr jobs for everyone that doesn't get a cushy job with the county.
The truth from a troll is still the truth.
