Thew old money in Buffalo doesn't want youth to send this city in a new direction because they would obvious lose input. The would prefer to re-cycle what we have so they would always be the big shots the deal makers the controllers of all of what this region does.

Until a new generation rise up and radically change direction of the city, they too will be bought off the follow the status Quo plan that the old money has regurgitated time and time again.

Buffalo :the place where bright minds once lived, but went elsewhere to improve another city's growth with new ideas and strategies and promotions.

This "for real" campaign definitely seems to be aimed at an older crowd. Most of the videos put me to sleep. These are supposed to be geared towards non-buffalonians to get them interested in visiting our area. But I don't see it sparking much interest in people looking for a fun place to spend a weekend. Maybe someone might think they can retire in Buffalo someday...

Why don't they just communicate the point...

"buffalo, your history vacation spot","buffalo, your architectural vacation"... Not those but to the point.

I remember one year I was involved with some group. An art agency came up with the slogan "Sightings". All I thought about aliens.

The new website is nice though.

    !

Buffalo for Real speaks to me on how our ancestors build a city that is real, strong, and prosperous a city of trade well that is what Buffalo was back in the 1800’s until about what 1970’s or 80’s. Buffalo for Real is targeting one specific type of population and that is artsy type people those who are architects or students of architecture. The music type, the artist type, those people who can give Buffalo a better cultural base.

The Mayor and his group of developers are no trying to re-build this city which they should do from the ground up but we will never see this in our life time. Did you know only a small handful men were born in buffalo NY who became Mayor’s of Buffalo while many were transplanted visitors who stuck around a few years or so and placed their mark upon the city of Buffalo. If you who live in Buffalo, in the heart of the city run for Mayor and place your own ideas upon the city of Buffalo.

Anyway, the Real Buffalo is a city that is dirty looking, streets are filled with pot holes and the poor sections of Buffalo haven’t had a street re-paved in like 40 years. People litter the streets like their at home Buffalo at one time was a clean city everyday you could see those men pushing those blue trash cans with those big wooden wheels attached who kept the city (downtown) area and its neighborhoods clean. Today, all we can see is trashy streets, pot hole filled streets, buildings abandon, old building who’s been standing since 1900, neighborhoods depleted with populations leaving only unmanned homes. Our highways and express ways are in poor shape and are so out dated it hurts my eyes.

Buffalo for Real is not telling people the Real truth this city is dead, its old, its been dying for years and as the suburbs expand further outward the inner city grows smaller eventually it too will die. You want a Real city try thinking about bring business here, lower state taxes to foster Real living with good culture base don’t try to bring in people who living in the Arts why…the City of Buffalo needs so much more than bringing in a bunch of Art students…RE-BUILD BUFFALO for a REAL FUTURE.

BRAVO! We need REAL, VIABLE actual BUSINESS in the city, not just art stuff. Again, nothing against art stuff, but without actual industries and services being located in the city and employing people the art stuff won't survive either... Problem is, every time they want to build an actual viable business or industry in the city who are the first ones to complain that it won't fit their "sense of place" artsy vision?

In other words, the art people need to stop acting like THEY are the ones who OWN the city and are the ONLY ones who have a say in it.

Slogan #4: Buffalo: The Whore On The Shore“Buffalo is ready to do anything, anywhere, anytime with anyone who will propose a waterfront development project. This slogan says it all: Both this Queen City and her administrative legs are wide open for business!”
    and these

I think some people are missing the point of the project. It's not about fixing buffalo, or selling buffalo to its own residents. It's supposed to spark interest in people outside buffalo to come visit. I think they did a poor job of it. But let's not make more of these videos than they were intended. Basically - it's not aimed at you or me and it's not intended as a A-Z list of everything good and bad in Buffalo. It's marketing.

Exactly and it would be better to put valuable input in versus ripping it apart.

How many people here pick their vacation destination based on architecturally old buildings? Not what is in the building but the building itself?

I do but it also depends on other things to do (obviously). Buffalo has fun stuff to do too, but these videos didn't hit on them.

Btw there are other videos on their website. I haven't gone through all of them yet. The original one was "This Place Matters" which I though was REALLY good for what it was, but they didn't need more videos like that one... they need different angles for different people.

The slogan should be, "Buffalo: The Real Survivor", or "Buffalo: Lost", any reality show title.... I truly like, "Buffalo: Grow With Us Again" (because we must rethink Buffalo, growth by going Metro, consolidating services, tax breaks for the middle classes, term limits, rebel against this status quo gov't that holds us back, also have to figure out a way to free ourselves from subsidizing NYC !!)

Buffalo: Grow With Us is short, catchy, & a lot better then the For Real one, fixing our gov't & their status quo & NYC's power is the toughest mountain to climb, or better yet, explode & blow up !!
