Isn't this the same thing the IP party basically does with thier news letter lately? Advertise in the news letter to get the IP parties endorsement?

Basically the same if you advertised in a news letter or a website in hopes of only having good things written about you.

On a March afternoon back in 2002, Judge Mark Farrell took a break from his Amherst Town Court schedule and settled down to talk with a reporter.
His chambers displayed a host of plaques and awards that recognized his establishment of the nation's first suburban drug court, the first domestic violence court in Erie County, and the only gambling treatment court in the nation.

They all spelled out Farrell's obvious respect for the law, and an even deeper passion for the integrity of the judiciary. That's why he seemed relieved to finally share his story of running for State Supreme Court in 1999. What should have proved the highlight of a stellar career, he said, instead became the "most demeaning and draining" experience of his life.

Farrell recalled how he felt forced to contribute to campaigns and causes dear to former Erie County Democratic Chairman Steve Pigeon to gain his all-important endorsement.

"It was like candidates for Supreme Court were an endless font of money for every campaign throughout the eight counties," Farrell, a Democrat, said then. "If you didn't contribute . . . your chances of an endorsement dropped dramatically."
