    That's a good thing.

We don't want to be a New York City.

Fewer people means better quality of life. Less traffic. Less pollution. Cleaner water, cleaner air.

Are you an idiot? Losing that much population is not a good thing. It's a symptom of the fact that we are the third poorest city in the country and there are not enough jobs to go around. Why? Well, we can thank the liberal policies and bloated spending that this state has in addition to the extremely high taxes that we must impose to keep these ridiculous benefit programs.

California is falling apart too. The liberal model simply doesn't work and as you look around the country, liberal states are failing and the only ones with any growth and jobs are conservative states like texas and tenessee with small governments and reasonable spending.

Liberals are like naive children with money. Many of them probably can't even balance their cheque books at the end of the month and they're also the ones with credit card balances they can't pay off. Putting these people in charge of governments is a recipe for disaster.

Unfortunately, you were not one of those 10% who left. Buffalo would be a better place without people like you.

If you like crowds so much why don't you move to NYC? They had a population growth over the last decade and are still the country's largest city.

Or are you too poor and uneducated to move?

    down state grew

did you notice that while western New York lost people down state gained. that means we will have less representation and New York C ity more. good timing when we are about to draw new lines all over the state.
Also erie county grew by over one hundred people while the city lost thousands. Meaning the suburbs will get more reps and the city will lose some.
one more thing with less people will the government be cut and the taxes lowered since they have less people to govern. I DOUBT IT Just my luck I will have to pick up the tax burden the others left behind

Funny, cheektowaga lost about 6.6%, and Tonawanda lost about 5%. Robbing peter to pay paul, Amherst grew and Clarence grew. Who's really surprised by this? The loss isn't necessarily bad if we know the demographics of those who left. If we exported 30,000 people who didn't contribute to the community, wouldn't that be a good thing?

Smart ones ...leaving while they can?

WE SHOULD concentrate on the reasons, WITH CORRECTIVE answers, as to WHY people are fleeing this area!
In fighting and fingerpointing , may be one of them!

Exactly! It's been the middle class that has been moving out... not to poor.

But those moving into Amherst are coming from the city AKA the POOR. And those moving into Clarence are coming from Amherst to escape the Ghetto's of the Sweet Home SD.

I would like to ask our politicians how it feels to govern a region where people do not want to live. The politicians represent us; an extremely selfish, short-sighted populace. Look at that Verizon situation in Niagara County. The people can't handle the truth. I've lost hope long ago., and clearly, these census figures justify the way I feel. These numbers won't change anything. Policies won't change. In ten years, the numbers will be even worse.

Yes. The city of Buffalo is downsizing to only contain people who contribute. That is exactly what is happening.

Keep reading Buffalo Rising for updates on the next entrepreneur who opens an ice cream cart on his bicycle. Because that is business development we can all get behind.

There are plenty of jobs around here in the tech sector. Unfortunately we lack the skilled people to fill these jobs.
