    America Without Black People

A very humorous and revealing story is told about a group of people who were
fed up with African Americans, so they joined together and wished themselves
away. They passed through a deep dark tunnel and emerged in sort of a
twilight zone where there is an America without black people. At first these
people breathed a sigh of relief. At last, they said, "No more crime, drugs,
violence and welfare!! All of the blacks have gone!" Then suddenly, reality
set in. The "NEW AMERICA" is not America at all-only a barren land.

    1. There are very few crops that have flourished because the nation was
    built on a slave-supported system.

    2. There are no cities with tall skyscrapers because Alexander Mils, a black
man, invented the elevator, and without it, one finds great difficulty
    reaching higher floors.

    3. There are few if any cars becauseRichard Spikes, a black man, invented
the automatic gearshift, Joseph Gambol, also black, invented the Super
Charge System for Internal Combustion Engines, and Garrett A. Morgan, a
black man, invented the traffic signals.

    4. Furthermore, one could not use the rapid transit system because its
procurer was the electric trolley, which was invented by another black man,
    Albert R. Robinson.

    5. Even if there were streets on which cars and a rapid transit system could
operate, they were cluttered with paper because an African American, Charles
    Brooks, invented the street sweeper.

    6. There were few if any newspapers, magazines and books because John Love
invented the pencil sharpener,William Purveys invented the fountain pen, and
Lee Barrage invented the Type Writing Machine and W. A. Loveinvented the
Advanced Printing Press. They were all, you guessed it, Black.

    7. Even if Americans could write their letters, articles and books, they
would not have been transported by mail because William Barry invented the
Postmarking and Canceling Machine,William Purveys invented the Hand Stamp
and Philip Downing invented the Letter Drop.

    8. The lawns were brown and wilted because Joseph Smith invented the Lawn
Sprinkler and John Burr the Lawn Mower.

    9. When they entered their homes, they found them to be poorly ventilated
and poorly heated. You see, Frederick Jonesinvented the Air Conditioner and
Alice Parker the Heating Furnace. Their homes were also dim. But of course,
Lewis Lattimer later invented the Electric Lamp, Michael Harvey invented the
lantern and Granville T Woods invented the Automatic Cut off Switch. Their
homes were also filthy becauseThomas W. Steward invented the Mop & Lloyd P.
    Ray the Dust Pan.

    10. Their children met them at the door-barefooted, shabby, motley and
unkempt But what could one expect?Jan E. Matzelinger invented the Shoe
Lasting Machine, Walter Sammons! invented the Comb, Sarah Booneinvented the
Ironing Board and George T. Samon invented the Clothes Dryer.

    11. Finally, they were resigned to at least have dinner amidst all of this
turmoil. But here again, the food had spoiled because another Black Man,John
    Standard invented the refrigerator.

Now, isn't that something? What would this country be like without the
    contributions of Blacks, as African-Americans?

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "by the time we leave for work, Americans have
depended on the inventions from the minds of Blacks."

Black history includes more than just slavery, Frederick Douglass, Martin
Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Marcus Garvey & W.E.B. Dubois.

    Interesting post, indeed.

That aside, this line is tripping over PC euphemisms. What exactly did you mean here?

American history has been lost by the mainstream when it comes to african americans.

I believe Black people should have had the decency of having this included in American History, so that a black history month would not be neccessary (seperate).

Young black people were robbed of growing up being inspired by someone who looked just like them like them, who added to the building and construction of this great nation.

America has chosen to displace this information of slavery with movies like "roots" to show america where they came from and what black people are all about.

When you don't know your past and where you came from ,it can be very difficult to understand your direction of your future.

This information did the black race and people of america dis-service.

You make a very big assumption that different ways of doing things would not be invented. Necessity drives invention. If there were not slaves available for picking crops, other forms would be used to accomplish the same task.

I agree with you though, there should be no 'Black history Month', it should all be history. Maybe it is, in the appropriate classes. From what I remember of my history classes, the only inventions they focused on were for the industrial revolution.

First here is the counter to this

Secondly, I do not think people want to banish African Americans but rather eliminate crime, drugs, violence and welfare!! Unfortunately, in our society these things bring to mind images of African Americans.

It is the same mindset here when someone wants to banish unions, a bloated public sector and patronage is called out as someone who hates the individuals who work in unions or the public sector.

How ironic is it that the originator of this thread's screen name is 'Bringthetruth'?

When Blacks came together in the past to actually build something for themselves by themselves america always found a way to destory it.

No my point is there's a reason why we have Black History Month, do you know why?

There shouldn't be affirmative action, but we have it ...do you know why?

America doesn't like to intelligently discuss these matters and they wonder why people feel like 2nd class citizens.

To be disadvantage because of your skin color is so sub-human in it's thinking .

In my lectures I ask people if they understand where the word "picnic" comes from. It was typical to have a picnic on a Friday evening in Oklahoma. The word was short for "pick a ******" to lynch. They would lynch a Black male and cut off body parts as souvenirs. This went on every weekend in this country, and it was all across the county. That's where the term really came from.
    picnic
1748 (in Chesterfield's "Letters"), but rare before c.1800 as an Eng. institution, from Fr. piquenique (1692), perhaps a reduplication of piquer "to pick, peck," from O.Fr. (see pike (2)), or the second element may be nique "worthless thing," from a Gmc. source. Originally a fashionable pot-luck social affair, not necessarily out of doors. Figurative sense of "something easy" is from 1886.

Well; back when I was in school, Catholic school, we learned about the important contributions to America from the black community.
It sounds like the public schools skipped over that contribution.

BTW- They are black Americans, unlesss they where born in Africa and recently moved to the US they are still just a black American.
The PC for this is well over done.

This is what I mean about america tries to avoid these discussions.

My point in the thread was why was wasn't this common knowledge if we are all americans (equal).

Maybe we should create threads that list the great accomplishments of every race or origin. Why not list what Asian Americans, Polish Americans, Irish Americans... etc etc have accomplished.

Why do people always seem compelled to point out the accomplishments of African Americans? I am just happy that things were invented by people to make my day easier. I don't care what race the inventor was.
