Three months after Georgia mascot Uga VII passed away due to heart failure, the Bulldogs have lost another crucial part of their fan base. Uga VIII, aka Big Bad Bruce, passed away earlier today from complications of lymphoma. Bruce, who made his debut as Georgia’s mascot in the Homecoming game against Vanderbilt in November, missed the Bulldogs’ December 31st bowl game against UCF because of what was deemed a gastrointestinal condition. Further tests showed that Bruce was suffering from canine lymphoma, and after two months of treatment, he succumbed to the disease. Big Bad Bruce was only seventeen months old. “We all mourn the loss of Uga VIII, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Seiler family at this time,” said Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity.
