ALBANY, N.Y. -- Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says disciplinary action should be considered against Governor Spitzer's office for releasing information on the use of state aircraft by Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno.
Cuomo released a 57-page report today that says Governor Spitzer tried to get information about Senator Bruno's use of a taxpayer-funded aircraft for non-state business for the purpose of giving that information to the media. Cuomo adds that a staffer had the state police create documents detailing Bruno's travels
Cuomo's investigation began after Bruno accused Spitzer's office of political espionage.
Cuomo said appropriate disciplinary action should be considered against the acting superintendent of state police, the governor's liaison to state police and Spitzer's communications director.
Minutes after the report was released, Spitzer suspended without pay his longtime communications director and said he will reassign his assistant deputy for public safety. Spitzer said he knew nothing of their plans.
Spitzer took no action against the acting superintendent of the state police, Preston Felton.
We're expecting to hear more from Governor Spitzer this afternoon.
