    Pretend Cigarettes

Anyone listen to news on the fake cig's? What would cause harmful affects? Thought about buying them for my son and daughter in law. I wish they would quit smoking but they are having difficulty.

The Chantix has terrible side affects, and now I am hearing that the patch does also.

Anyone have any ideas on how to quit smoking?

Yes, you just stop and don't BUY THEM.

Lot of people quit once they get lung cancer and die. You basically go through treatments and rot away.. You cough up blood because the tumors are growing in your chest. They might spread into your brain and other organs. As you lose weight your skeleton starts to show through your skin.. Your love ones try anything to help but you slowly die..I got to watch that happen about 9 times over 10 years. Always ends up the same.

Your his mom right? Crush them anytime you see a pack sitting on a table.

here's the kicker. We have people who insist government should control things because of health reasons yet the government lets people buy cigs.

That is how you know quit a few people who are elected officials etc are bull****ters.

The electronic-cigs have a much cleaner delivery system than regular cigarrettes, which vaprizes the nicotine instead of setting it on fire, meaning the vapor is cleaner and less damaging to your lungs...not sure what side effects are or that nicotine is still as harmful.

They work by inserting a purer nicotine cartridge (not as many additives as cigarrettes), which I heard is expensive, but, you get what you pay for. maybe the expense will cause fewer tokes.

THE ONLY WAY TO QUIT IS COLD TURKEY!
Set the day & stick to it. I quit in 1994 & that's how I did it. It's ALL will power. Don't put more poison in your body trying to get rid of poison. I smoked more than a pack a day & likely 2. EVE menthol light 120s for YEARS! Don't try to cut down because you can't. :-)

My grandfather smoked pall malls until he was 70. Stopped cold turkey one day. Lived until he was 93 or so.

    Vapor War
Our irrational hostility toward electronic cigarettes.

The American Lung Association, along with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the American Heart Association and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, recently called for e-cigarettes to be removed from the market. The groups say e-cigarettes have yet to be proven safe and that kids may be attracted to the products, some of which come in flavors like chocolate and strawberry. "Nobody knows what the consumers are actually inhaling," says Erika Sward, director of national advocacy at the American Lung Association.

Governments seem to be buying this view. The FDA has officially barred importation of e-cigarettes. "These appear to be unapproved drug device products," a spokeswoman tells the Times, "and as unapproved products they can't enter the United States." Australia and Hong Kong have also prohibited the devices.

That's a pretty awkward position. We restricted smoking, tobacco sales, and advertising based on decades of evidence that smoking was harmful to smokers and bystanders. Now we're treating electronic cigarettes the same way based on ... what? That "nobody knows" how bad they might be? The elements of smoking that justified our war on tobacco—carcinogens, combustion, secondhand smoke, even nicotine—have been removed or made optional. Is it really logical to ignore these differences?

Thanks for finding this editorial. Well years ago l too smoked Eve menthol 100's. I smoked because they were pretty with the flowers on it. And somewhere between the pretty flowers I found myself in love with smoking.

Long story short, I did not smoke many cigs a day. About 5 or 6. But one day I had a pain in my chest. I stopped cold turkey. I may have had a cig here and there but that was 10 years ago.

I need to find a way to convince my son to stop cold turkey.

The NYS legislature is also working on a law to prevent "distracted walking". According to the legislation, it would be illegal to cross a street while speaking on a cell phone, texting, or listening to an ipod or other portable sound generating device.

What will they think of next??????

... a way to balance the budget and pay down the deficit are good goals to work towards and are in line with the representation they were elected to do - but, unfortuantely, that does not impose a fine on taxpayers.

This is what's wrong with this country. You guys have good points because they spend all this time twiddling their thumbs figuring out ways NOT to do things. How about the studies they keep doing to see if we can have a peace bridge or now the studies being done for the fast track and the studies to do studies...geezzeee.......

I have to wonder if the ban has any possible tie to loss of cigarette tax $$$$...
E-cigarettes are marketed as devices to help quit smoking, but that's not the only reason to use them. Some people are not looking to quit, but to use when regular cigarettes are not allowed as in most public places.
Yeah, I suppose everyone should just quit, but that's not gonna happen any time soon. I'd rather see people use these than fall asleep while smoking and burning the house down, generating 2nd hand smoke, and some of the other unpleasantries from smoking traditional cigarettes.
