that's me after I drove all the way down to the County Bureau of Forestry only to see a huge sign saying that the park was officially CLOSED
WTF?
Isn't this why we pay county taxes?
Does anybody know what is going on with this particular park?
On a nice note, we just went up the road to Sprague Brook (another county park and a really nice one at that) and had a nice bike ride on the trails, so all ended well.
But why is the forestry park closed, and how does one "close" a forest anyway?
What needs to happen to a few hundred acres of trees to make it "open" to the public?
I don't get it.....
The truth from a troll is still the truth.
Trolls, if you want to ramble in the woods, come on down to Chautauqua County. We have state forests and county forests that are always open to hikers. There's a trail head for one of the county trails on the Gerry-Ellington Road (take RT 60 to Gerry, turn left at the 4-way in Gerry, and drive several miles -- the parking lot will be on the left). There are a number of gravel access roads into the state forests around Sinclairville that are suitable for mountain biking, too.
