Sprinkler system breakdown identified as reason for Lancaster Town Hall water damage

“It was an accident. It could happen to anyone at home and people should check to ensure their water pipes don’t freeze. It’s nobody’s fault,” declared Town of Lancaster Supervisor Robert Giza at the beginning of the Town Board work session. It was an accident that happened where no one would want such accident to happen and there was no intent to have it happen.”

Why would there be water up to the sprinkler head if the system was a dry system? Frozen or not.

Was the main valve that would open energizing the system was left open or failed?

I the building was occupied as it sounds why was it left to fall below 32 degrees causing the pipe to freeze?

Good questions Res. I am sure this will be in the public being visibly watched by taxpayers. First of all it is a shame that a building that cost that much money in only it's infancy occupation already has damage. I believe accidents do happen, but this one is a biggy.

Fronzak is right, who is responsible and signed off. That is the first place to begin. Who will foot the bill?

When all said and done, will the insurance rates rise? When claims are made, and this one is substantial, invariably your rate increases. So the taxpayers will be footing that bill.

    Such a shame.
